Read what parents are saying about Pittsburgh Carrick High SchoolHonestly, any student who wants to learn can get a great education here. Teachers respond in a timely manner to emails. Every parent has access to their child's gradebook and attendance. Those who are taught to value education and make good decisions thrive here. Getting involved in the many activities that are offered both during and after school also provide great opportunities to build character. There are many teachers there who have even graduated from Carrick. This is just my experience, but the ability to gain a good experience is available to all.
Posted by a community member on 1/30/2020No matter what I do in the morning, once my daughter leaves for School, I never know if she is going or skipping. I don't want to get myself into trouble for her not going too school, my question too you is, why don't you contact me, or other parents when their kids are absent? I can not physically make her do anything, what is your suggestion? Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you kindly
Posted by a community member on 1/9/2017I m a former student from back in the early forties. It was a wonderful experience! The Choir went down the hall singing Carols at Christmas. We had great, dedicated, teachers (except for a metal shop teacher who started to choke a boy for yelling too loud.) My English teacher even came in on a Saturday to tutor when I was slipping. The Boy's Coach was also a superb swimming instructor. Often behind in homework, I stayed for a lot of study halls; but, it was worth it. Alas, I would give the school 5 stars except that the Principle and home-room teacher had me suspended in the 10th grade -- for some reason that I don't know to this day. I was certainly not a trouble maker and got along well with the teachers. With my Dad overseas and my Mom was in poor health, they couldn t address the issue. .
Posted by a community member on 10/25/2010This school is typical of Pittsburgh Public Schools. They discipline more than teach. The leadership is unable to differentiate between offenders and defenders. They use a blanket solution...suspension, which is not a true punishment for the offending students because they do not fear it. Students do not adhere to attendance policies and wander in well after the start of school. My child's academic experience is a disappointment. The guidance office and social worker are overloaded with problem students to actually give guidance.
Posted by a parent on 7/17/2010Carrick used to be a great school, but it has rocketed towards the ground. This school has taught my son nothing. The children here are out of control, and most of the teachers do not particularly care for the students' individual needs. They tend to pick favorites. There are some very good teachers in this school, but they are few, and I assure you that most of the others do not know how to teach. The children here are immediately punished as soon as a teacher 'writes them up' without a word from the student. The school is dirty, with bees often flying around the room. The kids roam the halls, and most of them do not do their work. Fights break out more often than students pass tests. The only way Carrick HS has attempted to fix all of this is with more work for the kids. I am disgusted with this school and it's methods of 'teaching'.

6/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageOmg where do I start, first of all they continuously pressure you to put your child on medication like Adderall and Ritalin at the age of six simply because they will not sit still for 8 hours. Then you reach out to them and say that you're handicap and it is extremely difficult for you to get your children back and forth to school without transportation so what do they do they say they can't help you and they ask you to pick up another kid and take them home on your way. Then because you're handicap and not able to get your kids to school like you told them they hit you with truancy even though you sent in doctor's excuses. This school is very predatory against parents they do not care what you have to say they do not listen to any of your concerns or needs you are the bad guy and you always will be in their eyes. Ever since my kids have started going here it has been a nightmare "DO NOT ENROLL YOUR KIDS AT CONCORD ELEMENTARY IT WILL BE ONE OF THE BIGGEST MISTAKES THAT YOU HAVE MADE."Parent Review1mo ago - Pittsburgh Roosevelt K -5

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI have been extremely pleased with St Sylvester school. My child, currently in third grade, has attended the school since kindergarten. I have found the education to be excellent backed by core Christian values in a nurturing environment. This school year, the principal has added several optional extra-curricular activities, including monthly book club and weekly computer coding classes. In addition, the class standardized test scores consistently exceed the state average. I would highly recommend St. Sylvester School to family & friends.Parent Review9y ago
