About this House

Steeped in history and rich in architectural character, this extraordinary East Side residence is a true Marquette landmark. Designed by renowned Michigan architect A.W. Lovejoy, the home beautifully preserves its historic integrity while offering the comfort and reliability of thoughtfully updated modern systems. As a special touch, the framed original 1892 blueprints will remain with the home, offering a rare connection to its remarkable past. Inside, timeless craftsmanship is showcased throughout, with meticulously restored original woodwork, stunning stained-glass windows, and intricate period door hardware. The original hardwood floors have been lovingly preserved, featuring white oak and Douglas fir throughout the main level, with elegant maple and cherry flooring upstairs. The main floor has been professionally reimagined by Allison Harlow of Curio Design Studio, featuring designer-selected finishes, sophisticated styling, and exceptional attention to detail. Designed for both everyday living and memorable entertaining, the inviting three-season porch and private backyard patio are perfect for enjoying summer meals surrounded by nature. Three original fireplaces create a warm and inviting atmosphere, each framed by beautifully preserved original woodwork and tile. The fully renovated third floor offers exceptional flexibility, making it ideal as a family room, children's or teen retreat, home office, fitness studio, creative space, or guest area. Behind the scenes, extensive improvements provide peace of mind for years to come. The home's electrical and plumbing systems have been comprehensively updated from the basement to the attic. Closed-cell spray foam and dense-pack cellulose insulation throughout the walls and basement significantly improve energy efficiency and year-round comfort. The chimneys were professionally rebuilt in 2008. Situated on a spacious corner lot in one of Marquette's most desirable East Side neighborhoods, this exceptional home is just a short walk from Lake Superior, parks, schools, and the vibrant downtown district. Rich in history, beautifully restored, and thoughtfully modernized, this is a rare opportunity to own an irreplaceable piece of Marquette's architectural heritage. Seller will include Studio RAD architecture plans and Greenstone's landscape design plans.

"This city is full of nature, adventure, and excitement! Hiking, kayaking, walking around downtown listening to live music in the summer. These are a few of the many incredible things to do in Marquette. The U.P. Has a very loyal culture and many diverse peoples due to being a college town. "
  • Brittany B.
"Close to the high school, hospital, and the university! Quiet neighborhood, and a great neighborhood to live in!"
  • Setonsieracki

"All of Marquette is very dog friendly. There’s a dog park nearby and tons of trails. Many people in town have dogs. "
  • Cali H.
"Everyone seems dog friendly. However, in apartments, not a lot of yardage to run the dogs! But there are dog friendly parks and lots of trails in Marquette which is good. "
  • Emilly L.
"People drive really fast so you have to make sure your dog doesn’t accidentally get loose. The side walks are nice for walking your pet and people seem friendly."
  • Unknown N.
"Marquette is these biggest city in the area. It acts as for the Center for government in Michigan in the UP. For that reason it seems bigger than it really is. The education and healthcare in the area is outstanding."
  • Bammert70
"There are lots of other dogs, mainly pitbulls, but they are friendly. there are many younger kids that will run around and play with the dogs if they are out. "

  • Lizpaepke
"I am just visiting it is beautiful up here. Love the lake cute downtown area. Good sidewalks for walking good beach area"
  • Shannon D.
"I've lived here for about 10 years. it's a large neighborhood and we're at the very end of I've side so we only have 2 immediate neighbors. I know a few other people in the neighborhood from birding interests. "
  • SSulskis
    "Nice quiet clean community"
  • dperlove
"This is a safe neighborhood, well maintained properties, nestled into the foothills of Marquette Mountain. Some lots abut a green strip with frequent sightings of deer and a variety of migratory birds during the summer months. Downtown is more than a short walk but is a reasonable bike ride away (warm months). Otherwise public transport is available from the front door. Snow plowing is excellent on Altamont and you can always get out during winter if you keep the foot of your driveway clear. Marquette has just the right amount of tourism to support a variety of sporting events and festivals during all seasons but not so much tourism that it feels like a congested bigger tourist area like Traverse City. There are a least three local micro-brewries, several good restaurants, and always entertainment, especially on weekends. Marquette is growing just enough to support continuous improvements and developments of its parks and attractions and there are at least two (three star type) hotels and along with a number of nice chain hotels for visitors. Downtown becomes almost magical in the wintertime with its snow-capped sandstone facades and "lit-up" trees. Being situated on a bay of Lake Superior makes Marquette one the the most picturesque small towns in the Midwest. "
