7/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageWe are in our 9th year and 3rd child at Highland. We've watched the quality slide downhill gradually, and we're left with just an average school with poor communication and an unwillingness to embrace the 21st century. Special Ed program is excellent, GT program used to be great, but is declining. No PTO, few opportunities for parents to volunteer on an ongoing basis (just for singular tasks). Office staff isn't very friendly. The school seems tightly packed for space, and would be that way even if it had fewer students. Teachers are amazing, but seem very put upon for more and more work with less and less help from 'management'. Nowhere near as tech savvy as other elementary schools in the district. However, the administration is a complete disaster with very little care given to students. They refer to themselves as babysitters and assume every child is there to give trouble. If there was a new front office/administrators, this rating would go up to at least a 4 and would recommend. "ISD 196 is a wonderful school district to be in. 20 minutes from Downtown Minneapolis, minutes from Eagan and Rosemount. Safe, kid friendly, and pet friendly neighborhoods. Many walking trails, parks, and lakes. Ideal location for privacy and a slower paced life only 20 minutes south of the Twin Cities. Cheapest gas tax in Dakota County."
