About this House
This turn of the century house is a smaller version of the grand estates it is housed between. It is located in a desirable and sought after neighborhood in Southwest Minneapolis a short walk to Lake Harriet, one block from Minnehaha Creek and in the center of the renowned Burroughs School district. With easy access to urban shops and downtown and surrounded by natural beauty, it is a lovely place to live. The house has all the classic, tasteful charm of its period with hardwood floors, woodwork and built ins. It also has a beautifully renovated new bathroom, fresh kitchen and is move in ready. The neighboring blocks are home to a close knit group of families that are welcoming and give this home an immediate social atmosphere and warmth.
Neighborhood Description
In the warmer weather, we take walks around the neighborhood and down to the lake to walk or
to swim (the south harriet beach is right at the lake entrance from where we are located) or we
stroll through the neighborhood looking at the old mansions nearby. In the winter, we take our
older daughter right down the street to the edge of Minnehaha where there is great sledding. My
husband and I are both runners and we adore living right here where we can take a run through
only natural beauty, never needing to traverse busy city streets.
Situated where we are, for days or nights out, we frequent 50th and France or head over to
Nicollett to Wise Acres and some of the other Tangletown restaurants. We also love Café
Maude’s and In Season in Armatage. They are all easy to access. Patina is being rebuilt at the
corner of 50th and Bryant (3 blocks away). This building also used to house the famous Heidi’s
and BlackBird Café and rumor has it equally local and high quality cafés are returning to this site.
(An unfortunate fire in Heidi’s in 2010 created the need for rebuilding). For grocery shopping we
go between Lund’s at 50th and France or Kowalski’s at 54th and Lyndale. And we love to get our
bread at Breadsmith on 50th and France.
My husband works in St.Paul and rides his bike along Minnehaha to get there on many days.
And, I commute to New Hope and have an easy commute right up Rte. 100. Though we don’t
work in downtown Minneapolis, for events downtown- Twins Games, shows, occasional
volunteer work I do at the Salvation Army, etc. the 4 bus stops right down the block every 15
minutes and we can get there easily in 20 minutes without any parking headaches.
