    "Southport village is a rare treasure, so close to New York City: a stable, very upscale but unpretentious seaside community. Some Southporters trace their roots back to pre-Revolution days. Others have been more recently welcomed here. Once they learn how wonderful Southport really is, no one wants to leave. The community stays close, because there are so many activities available within the village. For many, it means a walkable lifestyle. There are two beaches, for starters. There's a harbor filled with yachts and smaller boats. There's a golf club with swimming and tennis, and commanding views over Long Island Sound. There's a historic library/community center, informal bars and a couple of special-occasion restaurants, a pharmacy where customers are known by name, an art gallery, and so on. Also in Southport Village is Eagle Hill School, for children with learning disabilities.
