7/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageGreat school! We like it better than CV. This school promotes education, has so many AP courses, and much more advanced in college readiness. Less fights and conflict than CV, less students too. Very safe school.Parent Review1y ago - Brainard Elementary School

7/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy social experience at school was positive. However, academics are a huge problem. As, a twin, I got to see the school from 2 perspectives. If your child is a quick learner and picks up skills fast, she/he will do well. If you child is slower at learning (NOT DISABLED), then he/she will do terrible in math, terrible in spelling, and be horribly bad at sounding out words. There are way too many children per teacher. For grades 1-4, the school also wastes too much time on pointless subjects. Instead of on focusing on STEM courses (science technology engineering MATH), they spend hours on sociology, history, learning songs for auditorium performances, art, and PE/physical games. IPA (an International Phonetic Alphabet intended for all speakers; Dictionaries use a subset of IPA to describe mainly the sounds of English) is never taught in kindergarten up to forth grade. Only in 5th grade is IPA briefly covered. Every kindergartener to forth grader should be made to memorize all IPA sounds & accompanied symbols for the English language. This will help them learn to pronounce words from the dictionary and to read.Anatomy is never taught. First and second graders should be able to list the basic organs of the human systems (brain, thyroid, thymus, heart, lungs, diaphragm, stomach, small & large intestines, liver, pancreas, gallbladder, kidney, and spleen). GO BACK TO THE BASICS for kindergartners to forth graders - 1. IPA & phonics 2. grammar 3. math 4. speed math calculation (adding/subtracting/division) 5. anatomy. In fifth grade introduce geology, history, biology, chemistry, physics and engineering, and computer programming. In sixth grade introduce art, sociology, literature, and higher grammar.Parent Review1y ago - Charles Maclay Middle School

3/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI attended Maclay from 1-12 grade. It was a wonderful learning environment largely free from prejudice or bullying. The teachers were almost uniformly excellent and I was extremely well prepared for college. I would happily send my own kids there.Other Review8y ago - Mt. Gleason Middle School

"I’m 30 years old and lived here my whole life; I walk, bike ride, and my friends do horseback riding. People are friendly and have family values. So great for raising kids here. Also a great equestrian life style. Churches, one gas station and one small grocery store, along with a self car wash and public library and multiple parks. A few schools; private and public. With easy access to the 210 freeway."

"Very safe and clean neighborhood. I love this neighborhood. Kids play outside. People say hello and walk their dogs outside. I love walking to the ranch cafe. The owner welcomes my dogs in the outdoor sitting area."

"I am one of few of the original owners in this tract that was built by Lesney in 1964. It will be 50 years in December that I have resided in this home. It is a great place to live with necessary conveniences such as a convenience store only 1 mile away, to 5 miles away for the following: Recreation facilities are within walking distance. Hiking trails, horse trails within walking distance; a library, fishing and swimming all within 2 1/2 miles. Grocery stores and such about 4 1/2 miles away, with banking just a bit farther. In my own backyard, deer, bobcats, raccoon, skunk, coyotes and fox have frequented the area from time to time. One true ring-tailed cat was spotted, one mountain lion and one California Wolverine by more than one witness. Being in the foothills, critters do visit once in awhile such as tarantulas, snakes, scorpions, centipedes and such, but hardly problematic except for the gophers. They thrive.....even having said that, anybody would love to live here...no walk-bys, no through traffic resulting in very few solicitors who want to make the trek up the rear entrance driveway. But what is best is the view of the valley....gorgeous. My favorite. "

"Only 30 mins from dt LA and 15mins from Glendale, Burbank and Santa Clarita...very strategic!"
