"148 miles each way gets along some weeks, but it sure is pretty in the winter. And the farmers market’s nice."
  • Mason Emmett
"Long and obnoxious but beautiful and peaceful, full of wonderful views And beautiful rivers and lots of wildlife "
  • Mason Emmett
"The peace is what makes this area a beautiful place to live and the river is the specialty of this place along with the views and nature you don’t get anywhere else. "
  • Nv6k4wxyjp
"I live in the small community of Cascade Shores. Everybody hangs out in front of the Cascade Shores Market where they have tables and chairs. We also have community BBQ’s at Lost Mine Lake and a big community yard sale once a year. "
  • Nv6k4wxyjp
"During the summer and early fall, there are community barbecues at the park around Lost Mine Lake in Cascade Shores. "
  • Nv6k4wxyjp
"There is no public transportation. The commute by car is fine during most of the year but we get quite a bit of snow from January through March. "
  • Nicholas/Bonnie R.
"They don’t want no more flat landers up here in these parts. So many kids are dying from the drugs & the out of Towner marijuana farmers brought in the cartels & tons of violent crime. The crime rate is one of the highest in the USA. Used to be a special little town until it got watered down by those from outta town."
  • Carolyn.dardick
"What commute? No commute bc work from home. Good internet. Husbands commute is 7 minutes no stoplights. "
  • Anon
"I guess it’s a good town I mean besides all the crack heads and 12 year old smoking weed before, at, and after school besides that it’s decent good hikes, beautiful river, and pretty lakes not much else to do though "
  • Adrienne Lincoln
"We have a wonderful neighborhood and everyone loves dogs here. Nice trail on ditch to walk dogs also. Can see lots of nature, birds, ducks, geese, cows and babies. Best time is 9-11. & 2-3pm, 6-8"
  • Dtylice
"Artists and writers have a strong presence in the community. Our neighbors are watchful, willing to help share the unwritten ‘rules’ that will allow us to coexist. All our neighbors are dog peeps, too."
  • Saradavis0901
"Lots of parades, fairs and downtown events. Peaceful community, lots of wildlife and fresh air. Community College centrally located, which makes it easy for everyone to get to."
  • Sharon A.
"Wonderful town with lots of history and great community involvement. We play a lot and love parades! Lakes, hiking trails, the Yuba River, there's so much to do so close by. Charm, character, top of the line fun!"
  • Larry E. G.
"great place to live! The cultural activities are high here. Especially in the music "
  • tahoenow
"Close to town yet with a country feel. Quite and safe for singles, couples or families. Beautiful flora with ample bird species and non-threatening wildlife."
  • Pam F.
"Hike and bike, ski the Sierras in the winter, swim in the Yuba River in the Summer, watch your kid march down Broad Street in the school marching band, or play football on a top HS team. And Halloween? You've never seen anything like it! Hurry!"
  • christineinshoes
"I find the neighborhood peaceful and private. Wonderful natural surroundings. Coolest area in Nevada County in the summer, clean, walking trails and friendly neighbors."
  • mariner2442442
"Cascade shores is an outstanding up and coming community with tremendous future potential. Walking distance to Scott's Flat Lake which offers a wealth of recreational opportunities, sailing, kayaking, fishing, and watersports. Go hiking or mountain biking right from your back door. Nevada City schools are fantastic and there are always community events."
  • exhero
"Home construction, landscaping, services, layout and location highly admired. E.g. Historic towns, closeness to education, shopping and medical services. Most lower section homes have views. City services. Underground utilities. True value of the CC&R's can be assessed by careful reading, observation and experience. (Creator of CC&R's no longer lives here or oversees CC&R protections -- from owners of barking dogs, for example.) "
  • cercisblaze
"Birchville Road is extremely popular for walkers, joggers, and bike riders. This is the best neighborhood on the San Juan Ridge - and closest to Nevada City. The people are great, the area is among the quietest in the county, some very large homes and generally large land parcel zoning contribute to this protected (exclusive) country scene. Homes are rarely for sale on this desireable road, the neighbors just stay and dont want to leave! Crime and other problems (like marijuana culivation) which has become very common elsewhere in Nevada County (especially in the south county, upper San Juan Ridge, Penn Valley, and Cedar Ridge/Rollins areas) just are not problems in the Birchville and French Corral neighborhoods. If you like to garden a real banana belt exists here in the winter due to great air drainage to the nearby canyons. As it is the last high point betwen the two Yuba Canyons, daily dirunal winds keep it cooler in the summer than surrounding outlying areas of Nevada County like Penn Valley, Smartsville, south county, and Lake Wildwood. It is possible to keep tomaotes with limited protection until December many years, and still have a nice summer with days rarely in the 90's. Mountain Bounty Farm has discovered this area the last couple of years and is leasing farm land here instead of expanding in the upper cold San Juan Ridge areas. Their CSA/Farm is impressive to drive past in the summer, a real show! Views to the Sierra crest, coast range, and Sacramento valley are available on the more exclusive properties. Wildlife abounds and the birdwatching is incredible. Bridegport State park, BLM land at the end of Birchville Road, South Yuba State Park, Malakoff Diggins State Park, and Forest Service lands are all in very close reach. "
