"Lots of people have dogs and they’re most always on a leash. We rarely see dogs running around the neighborhood without a leash or collar."
  • Michael
"Nice area...seasonal...quaint community...good restaurants lots of outdoor activities as well as town events...holiday spirit...up pretty high..foothills...sunsets...snow...lots of clear days....great views...located nicely between Sacramento and Reno,nv."
  • Darcie
"23 miles to and from work. Very easy commute from where we live. I don't work in the town I live in but the next town over. Easy commute but not a very safe highway. Caltrans it's making it safer by widening the roads."
  • Gwebberarts
"Living in Grass Valley's woods-y neighborhoods, close to shopping, groceries, farmers market & downtown, with easy highway access!"
  • Darcie
"i’ve lived in this neighborhood for over 20 years. I was born about an hour from here so this is like coming back home! Everyone is very friendly! since Grass Valley is about 3000 feet in elevation, The snow level is just above us. We might get a few inches of snow every year, but it doesn’t last long. It does get pretty hot in the summertime as high as 105 at times. It’s actually very beautiful! There are many pine trees, cedars, and oaks in our neighborhood! Also gold country is where we live! So if you’d like to try your hand at gold panning try many of our creeks and rivers! Our county has the most beautiful fairgrounds in California! Many things to do in our town!"
  • Jaelyn Jimenez
"I would say the Nevada county fair is a pretty unique community event for Grass Valley. Also playing in the snow is always fun every year. "
  • Christine Cook
"Not a lot of dog parks downtown but miles and miles of hiking trails where owners can bring their dogs as long as they stay on a leash. Most pet owners are very responsible in this community."
  • Christine Cook
"It’s a quiet neighborhood with mostly Victorian homes. It’s near a high school but that doesn’t seem to affect traffic or the peaceful atmosphere. It’s fairly close to Hwy 49 so there’s a lot of background noise but one gets used to it pretty quickly. There are several nice parks and trails nearby. It’s a decent place to raise a family. It’s also within walking distance to of historic downtown and shopping. "
  • Nv6k4wxyjp
"We have a vibrant downtown area with community events offered several days a week, many of which are free. Grass Valley residents tend to be creative and artistic. Many residents own local shops to display their wares. "
  • Christina Cox
"Yes people walk their dogs every day here! There is a nice trail as well as the street. No sidewalks is the only weakness."
  • Trulia User
"Fireworks, we are all usually very friendly. there's a County Fair most kids go to in the Summer. There have recently been a few pride events, and the toy drive for kids in need drives through the neighborhood."
  • Trulia User
"people do not pickup after their pets and some let them wonder in your yard. there are hills and also flat areas. just keep your pet on their leash "
  • Richard C.
"wide open, lots of trees, great to meet residents, shop localy, varied neighborhoods, qildlife is great "
  • Imogensky
"Nature, small town, community, local business, people are super nice or want to be left alone, outdoors, cooler than down the hill, hippies, snow, river/lakes/hiking, tahoe and sac a little over an hour away and safe enviroment."
  • Z'henna J.
"It’s a great place to raise a family or retire. But if you are a new adult looking for more I HIGHLY recommend you go somewhere more exhilarating. "
  • Z'henna J.
"To downtown grass valley, you could walk there easily. Driving to Nevada city takes around 6 minutes. "
  • Jjolsono1999
"I drive my car, or 4runner to work and around town. to pick up my kids. to get gas and food............ "
  • Andy J.
"Nice place to walk dogs and plenty of them around, often stores are dog friendly and we have an awesome dog park. "
  • Joyuss59
"I live outside of town with no neighbors! Fairgrounds is a great place to walk for older people and small children to ride there bikes "
  • Mike L.
"County fair, downtown events, theatre, shows, old town feel, downtown markets, grass valley down town, Nevada city down town."
  • Elysia G.
"There is a big meth problem here and it's very, very expensive. Plus, the healthcare system is sub-par."
  • Barbara
"Best not to let your dogs wonder off leash...some predator animals, and sometimes neighbors get very upset."
  • Catie C.
"The public transportation is awful and there are almost no Uber/Lyft services. Everyone walks, bikes, or drives everywhere. But there is no traffic on the road outside of public events making it quick and easy to get all over town. "
  • Allison P.
"it's a good quiet place to live and raise a family. I was born here and raised here the past twenty seven years."
  • Bandpowell
"This is a small town and if you work in town, it is a 5 to 10 minute commute. Easy place to get around."
  • Lilroyal101
"I’ve lived in this neighborhood almost my whole life and it’s a very friendly community. My family and I have loved living here."
  • Trulia User
"Good place to live , expensive and somewhat boring but depending on what you like to do it’s great, we disk golf and ride mountain bikes a lot, river in the summer it’s good "
  • Andy J.
"I can drive, walk, or ride my bike depending on how I feel. Love the area but is expensive, same as most of California I assume. "
  • Andy J.
"Great small community with home town feel , options to walk to for dinner , fun, play. I’ve lived here for six years now and love the area. I do ride my bike and walk often. When I drive traffic is not bad. "
  • Pacificadolphins
"Very easy driving - never traffic. Very easy access to freeway. Some streets are narrow so with cars parked along the side you must allow car from other direction to pass"
  • Dean D.
"The neighborhoods in this area are really nice for the most part some people have issues but who don’t. Not super dog friendly but enough to take my dogs for a walk"
  • Susie L.
"It is like living in a tourist town. Cost of living is higher. Housing more expensive than I am used to. I am displaced due to the camp fire and my employer relocated me here and I am grateful. "
  • LindaB
"Alta Sierra is one of the nicest and safest communities anywhere in the vicinity. Neighbors are friendly. HOA only costs $40/yr and is a wonderful community organization. Great clubhouse, golf course, restaurants, pizza parlor, auto repair, elementary school. Quiet. Absolutely lovely. Herds of deer roam freely everywhere. Only 3 miles to town. But far enough out of town to really enjoy being in the country. Lots of amenities."
  • Lori g
"like: Easy walking loops within housing development and access to land trust trails, some level streets"
  • Ehron V.
"Romain Angels, amazing and interesting characters around here. Very nice people however in a lot of areas there’s tweaks and sketchy activities. But overall beautiful. "
  • Vanessa M. M.
"I absolutely love Nevada county I intend to live here my whole life I don't like that is becoming so overpopulated but I enjoy this place if you could truly be in love with a place I'm in love with Nevada county"
  • Colleen L.
"We all look out for each other and lend a hand when needed. On occasion there will be potlucks or summer barbecues. "
  • Shauntel C.
"Grass Valley is great, but something strange in a brewing in the air around here. whatever it is it's not good. But schools are great!! There is a lot of homeless and illicit drug use and I'm not talking marijuana either. At first, I thought the people were nice, but I think that's only in Penn Valley. Grass Valley has many younger/middle-age folk that act like they are in high school and are brutal to new comers. That being said, I have met many kind individuals who have been welcoming."
