9/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageWe’ve had our children at Pioneer School of the Arts for two years now, and our experience has been nothing short of amazing. The teachers truly go above and beyond — they care deeply about every student, communicate often, and consistently welcome parent involvement in so many ways. Whether it’s volunteering in class, helping prepare materials, or participating in events, they make families feel part of a real community. Both my girls are part of the Gifted and Talented programs that are now offered in-house starting in 2026. The accelerated placement process wasn’t the easiest (it never is anywhere), but the staff listened, improved the process, and kept us informed every step of the way. Bureaucracy is rarely fun, but Pioneer handled it with transparency and care. The teachers are wonderfully communicative and visible, regularly sharing photos and updates that help parents stay connected to daily classroom life. The principal, Mr. Jakious, is approachable, engaged, and supportive — he sets a wonderful tone for the school community. The admin team, including Mrs. Jill Barton and Liz Ramsey, is exceptional — always kind, patient, and ready to help with anything from a forgotten coat or lunch box to scheduling and general inquiries. Their friendliness and efficiency make such a difference in daily school life.Starting fourth grade, students can choose a music elective — Orchestra, Band, CPAL, or Choir — while k-3rd graders experience both music and CPAL, which includes learning keyboard skills. These creative programs are a highlight and beautifully align with the school’s arts-based mission. The school also offers enriching programs like Pumathon during recess and countless community-based events that bring everyone together. Like in every school, parents have to advocate for their kids — that’s our job — but here, you truly feel supported in doing so.We made the transition from a Montessori-style private school after five years, initially apprehensive about public schools in Idaho after hearing some horror stories. But our worries disappeared almost immediately. Pioneer stands out for its creativity, arts integration, engaged teachers, wonderful staff and a fantastic PTA that brings it all together. We’re so grateful to be part of this community and can’t imagine being anywhere else.Parent Review2mo ago14 Reviews - Ustick Elementary School

6/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageIf I could give a negative star review I would, but since I can't I am stuck leaving it as a one star. My son started kindergarten this year and we've had nothing but trouble with the school. He started being bullied and then because of that started to act out. He was not getting the support he needed or being watched very well. I will not go into details to give our identities away. But if I could start his kindergarten year over at another school I would. I am investigating and looking for another option starting today. Do not allow your kids to go here! I constantly worry about his safety at this school.Parent Review3y ago10 Reviews - Centennial High School

8/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageFor context, I’ve already graduated. I don’t know why you’d pick this school given that there’s not much that stands out. A large portion of the student body here is also involved in marijuana usage. There’s few good teachers and a portion of them seem to have trouble maintaining composure—I’ve noticed that the front desk staff in particular seem to have trouble with this. On a side note, I wouldn’t be surprised if the school gets highlighted in the press for misconduct related to the special needs students. I’ve had conversations with some of them and they don’t seem to be getting treated too well behind closed curtains. If you want an alternative, you’d probably be better off at a public charter school (a publicly funded school that has more flexibility in its curriculum which also attracts a stronger body of staff).Other Review7mo ago7 Reviews - Lewis & Clark Middle School

7/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageDon't get me wrong, I love this school! but I would say that it's not the school's fault, but I have seen some student interactions that aren't very healthy, like bullying, racism, and overall, just the atmosphere of the school's student population isn't the happiest. another thing is the mental health, which is (from overall student population, not me or select group) but the sheer amount of depression, drug use, and state of the student's health is on the low side. the teachers are overall great, and i feel like every teacher is very different, which can be good and bad. good because students can really find teachers that they work well with. but bad because if a student is placed with a teacher they don't work well with, they may want to switch, causing schedule issues. I participate in sports here, and i really think it's a good program. last, i think that the extracurriculars are great here! we have an outstanding band and orchestra group and lots of clubs for specific things offer a variety of ways for students to interact with people they work well with. all in all, this school is pretty great, but its educational side is way better than social, which can affect some people.Student Review3mo ago8 Reviews - Check out schools near 10625 W Java Dr.

"I work from home, and when I did commute it was 10 minutes away, near the Village. Anywhere in the valley takes about 20 minutes. Not bad. "

"My neighborhood is quiet, but the people are very nice towards one another. We all have our own lives, so we don't see each other a ton, but when we do interact with our neighbors it's always positive."

"We have two dogs. There’s not a good dog park super close by but people seem to be generally dog friendly. If your dog barks a lot though, people might not be super nice about it. "
