My kid loves it here, he comes home happy and is learning so much.

Cookeville is a fantastic school. They offer so many options that my child would not have access to at another school. As a freshman taking Honors courses, as well as an AP course, and receiving afterschool assistance to get caught up in the math - I could not be more proud to have a Cavalier student!! My only negative (4.9 STAR) review is due to the fact that there isn't a safe place for the teens to go to after school. There seems to be no rules/regulation/supervision in the LEAPS program which is very disheartning to the point that I would not allow my teen to be there, and I have chosen to giveup my lunch break for an early pickup once school is out. This is unacceptable that my child does not feel safe in that environment.

I think the school has good intentions, and the principal is well spoken, but her underlings are miserable. They have no desire to truly help children. I feel like they are there for a paycheck and nothing else. Bullying is rampant here. My daughter was "beat up" in class while the teacher was away and after investigating they made the offender "walk laps" as a punishment. Another friend of ours daughter was smacked in the back of the head on the way out of school and when it was addressed with a teacher, she was told to "toughen up", she was raised with 5 older brothers, she is pretty tough already. Also my daughter has orthodontics and sometimes takes soup to school, we have arrangements with one of the teachers for her to warm it up in her microwave, when she asks permission to go do that, she is told no, "we provide a hot lunch and we are not here to accommodate you." The vice principal is very condescending when she speaks to my wife about my daughters complaints. We have not had good experiences here . Although I will mention that my daughter loves her current teacher and her band teacher. They are few and far between, but they are making a difference in her life.
