Description

Gretchen Spitler Designs and Architect David Dillard collaborated to create this one-of-a-kind Rocky Mountain classic. The blend of contemporary architecture, warm traditional materials and detailing is truly remarkable. Located 15 minutes from Durango, 10 minutes from the Glacier Club and 15 minutes from Durango Mountain Resort, this beauty's secluded setting off County Road 250 result in a perfect balance of privacy and everyday convenience. A haven-like first impression is established upon arrival to the lush landscaped setting surrounded by a 50 to 60 foot mature Ponderosa Pine forest. The home's warm stucco, large timber and stacked stone exterior are highlighted by a clear sense of arrival offering guest parking and a cobblestone path leading to the home's inspiring entry. A harmonious transition from the large timber framed exterior entry to the warm vaulted ceiling and skylight interior entry foyer is achieved through the continued use of Eldorado stacked stone, ruff hewed timbers and architectural metal detailing. The entry foyer opens into the Great Room, Study and Dining Room. The vaulted ceiling Great Room features a 22' stone and metal clad wood burning fireplace, warm knotty alder wood entertainment cabinetry with unique metal detailing and a full window-wall leaving one feeling as if they are in the beautifully landscaped backyard. The Dining Room is one-of-kind! The room is centered under a handmade two-tiered rustic candelabra and surrounded by walls of stacked stone and an accent wall consisting of hand-finished rustic metal panels seamed by hand-worked metal strapping (Candelabra and metal wall custom-built by Artist-Blacksmith Rodney Picket). The Study is encompassed by a custom built-in knotty alder wood desk, cabinetry with rustic metal cabinet door inserts, hardwood flooring, ruff hewed roof timbers and a window wall to a garden area. The Kitchen centers on a 5 1/2' x 8' chiseled edge granite top island and includes high-quality stainless steel and alder wood clad appliances, abundant cabinetry, walk-in pantry, natural cleft slate flooring and the continuation of the beautiful ruff hewed ceiling timber theme. The downstairs Master Bedroom centers on a unique entry vestibule opening to a bedroom handsomely designed with a vaulted ceiling, rich faux finished walls and ornate antique specialty lighting. The Master Bath is finished with travertine flooring and wall veneers and includes a large Jacuzzi tub, a large glass enclosed shower and a his & her walk-in closet. The upstairs Master Bedrooms and Bathrooms are uniquely themed and both open to a spacious Den including a build-in alder wood entertainment center, work surface, extensive cabinetry and a large window wall. The Mud Room is both beautiful and practical. A built-in alder wood armoire is designed large enough to keep ski and outdoor gear out-of-sight from the everyday side door and garage entrance. A well thought-out craft room and laundry area with abundant built-in cabinetry is located directly off the Mud Room. The 30' x 24' garage is truly large enough to house 2 full-sized vehicles, a roomy work bench area and lots of storage cabinets and shelving. The Garage also features attractive cedar clad automatic overhead doors and a fun and practical horse trough sink for cleaning muddy gear and pets. A partially completed Bonus Room (not included in the square footage shown) is located above the garage on the east end of the house. The Bonus Room is insulated, wired, plumbed and ready to be finished according to the Buyer's desire (guest quarters with independent entry, office, entertainment center, etc.). The everyday entrance to the home is flanked by a quaint covered outdoor patio that can be used as three-season outdoor seating or dining area. Bottom-line...There is not a square foot of this home that has not been attentively designed and harmonized.
