8/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageHaving my own children at San Pasqual Union School, along with my nephews and extended family members attending as well, I can sincerely say this school has been an amazing place for our kids. We were not original families here. We came as transfers, and from the very beginning we felt genuinely welcomed. What truly makes SPU special is the community within the school itself. It really does feel like “The Little School in the Valley.” Families from many different walks of life come together here, including military families, first responders, multilingual families, longtime locals, and newer residents. The teachers truly know their students. The leadership is present and engaged. There is a shared spirit of collaboration and a clear commitment to helping children grow and succeed.I also really appreciate how inclusive the school is toward parents. There are many ways to be involved, and families are encouraged to participate in strengthening the school. Whether you volunteer regularly or show up when you can, you are welcomed. We have seen meaningful academic growth. The improvements in reading and math shared at board meetings through the iReady program mirror what we see at home. Our children are reading more confidently and are more enthusiastic about learning. Implementing a new curriculum is not easy, but the teachers have embraced the challenge and the progress is evident.Safety and student well being are clearly priorities. The work put into strengthening the District Comprehensive School Safety Plan, along with adjustments made to better support English learners, reflects thoughtful leadership. Every family deserves to feel that their children are safe and valued. Most importantly, our children are encouraged and supported every day. Their growth, both socially and academically, has been impressive. This is what a calm, student centered environment should feel like.We are grateful to be part of this school community and highly recommend San Pasqual Union to families looking for a strong, safe, and caring public school.Parent Review4mo ago22 Reviews - San Pasqual High School

"To La Jolla. Depending on time can be horrible and up to 50 mins. 56 is always crowded. Not much else to say. "

"Our neighborhood has a very quiet, surburban feel. We know most of our neighbors since my family has lived here 10 years now. It used to be mostly older folks but younger families have been moving in in recent years. Totally inaccessible by public transport, but beautiful views of the mountains and close to Lake Poway. "

"The commute to downtown where I work tends to take around 30 minutes, keeping in mind that I don’t work a regular 9 to 5 schedule. It’s not bad. "

"No off leash dogs are allowed at the park. Also, the streets are flat with street lights so that is great"

"Ok. Once you’re in Poway you’re in Poway it’s kinda a drive to go elsewhere. I work downtown and it’s a 45 min drive with traffic. People are pretty friendly here and kind. I feel relatively safe living here. Anyway getting to and from the freeway can be a bit slow that’s my only real gripe."

"Lots of well maintined parks, great library, lots of family events and fantastic schools. Most neighborhoods do not have an HOA or Mello Roos, but are maintained well. The Old Poway Park is a place that attracts kids and families from all over San Diego county, and has probably the finest Farmers markets."

"I've lived here since 2006. Peaceful area. Friendly neighbors, but they don't impose on anyone, so if you're an introvert, that's respected, too. Within walking distance to movie theaters, nice restaurants, ice cream and frozen yogurt shops, drug store and grocery stores. Hiking trails right outside the entrance to the community. Also within about 2 miles of the I-15 which has a carpool and toll road south to San Diego (10-15 min. drive) and north to surrounding destinations. Also has highest rated school district in the county!"

"I grew up here and I felt rather safe. A note for high school parents, though, there are small groups of students at Poway high that enjoy smoking pot secretly, among other things."

"I drive my own car. It’s about 45 min commute to get to work. Traffic is more heavier on the streets as well as the city drivers in poway are the worst . Always run red lights and not paying attaching and almost hitting other cars. "
