"Not too many dog walkers. Just clean up after your dog. The neighborhood is clean. Not too many areas to walk the dog and let him do his or her business though. Quiet respectful neighborhood. Friendly people. Clean and safe neighborhood. Always kept up. Children play outside so make sure that your dog is well trained and won't harm the children. The children are very friendly towards dogs and cats. Neighborhood is nice and you would like it...."

"Portage is a growing diverse town. It has several places to dine in and near the mall and downtown Valpo. It is a calm and comfortable place to live with pretty good schools."

"avoiding busy streets at peak times usually works. the street I live on has become very busy. which means very noisy. Portage PD does NOT enforce the noise ordinance and we have decided to move from Portage sometime next year."

"Everyone on our street looks out for each other. Most of the neighbors take pride in their homes and yards. I am close to the beach and walking trails. I am close to most of my shopping needs. "

"Crime is minimal and the schools are great...I raised my three sons here and they are now very successful...Everything you need as far as stores are just in a 3 to 4 mile radius "

"Portage is a nice, smaller city with all the amenities one could need, and it’s location in the Chicago metropolitan area makes trips to Chicago or even the beaches at Lake Michigan a breeze. You’ll find all the perks of living in the city, while maintaining the lifestyle of a small town. "

"If you walk around our subdivision 4 times, it is a mile. We have a small but great neighborhood. Boardwalk subdivision is a great place to live. "

"Lived in Portage for 31 years. Boring and had a murder down the street. Not the best town to live in."
