What Locals Say about Pioneer

  • Fia9037
"Personally I have two dogs and most of my neighbors have 2-3 dogs. It’s spacious yards for dogs, good streets for walking them and friendly people to watch out for them!"
  • Christina
"It’s best for WFM or retired because otherwise it would be a very long commute to any employment outside of Pioneer"
  • Chris K.
"We are in what locals call Up Country. Most of us own an acre or more and on my street lots are at lease 1.3 acres. We’re right across the ravine from the national forest, BLM, and logging forests. The reason we don’t go for walks after dark is because of the wildlife in the area. We have Black Bear and Mountain Lions and well and bobcat, fox, ringtails, raccoons, skunks, and deer galore."
  • Trulia User
"There is not a lot for kids to do here activity-wise, but I wouldn't change my childhood experience here for the world. This is a very wholesome community and I think it is unique because of its remoteness. Plus, the neighborhoods need a few more kids, then maybe it wouldn't be so boring for the ones that are already here :)"
  • Ric C.
"Pioneer is a quiet, safe, clean mountain village. The downside: it's a bit boring. But excitement is dangerous, eh? Most shopping is 1/2 hour away in Jackson, the county seat. This forested region is quite beautiful. The local road, state route 88, the Kit Carson Pass Highway, has been voted one of America's most scenic roads. We're just above the Mother Lode / Gold Rush country, and near the Shenandoah Valley winegrowing region. If you want gangs and depraved nightlife, look elsewhere. If you want quiet, safe, affordable living. check out Pioneer CA 95666."

"We took a tour of homes with an agent..and some of those ...like this one..we thought wouldn't work...were great. You just have to see them I guess. Very cute inside..space for our boat..and wow what decks. so peaceful"
  • Carrol P. H.
"Safe and clean area with nearby amenities (groceries, hardware, golf, motel, dental/medical, fuel, restaurants & more). Amador transit available, hospital within 30 minute drive. Nightlife at the casino within 30 minutes from Buckhorn, golf at Mace Meadows and enjoy their wonderful restaurant."
