What Locals Say about North Riverdale

Review Highlights

North Riverdale buzzes with suburban calm, parks, easy transit, and quick Manhattan access. People love the safe, family vibe, dog parks, Van Cortlandt, and buses to the 1. Some note crowding, spotty plaza parking, limited growth, and occasional crime worries.

"There are many families with children. People are kind and look out for each other. There are a lot of local family-friendly activities, if that is something you’d like to do."

"Great access to public transportation in this neighborhood, I don’t take it, I drive. There are bus stops everywhere. There’s also good parking pretty often. There’s lots of street parking on the main avenue and then there is residential parking. "

"It feels very suburbia while still in New York City. A very quiet and cozy neighborhood. Great place to live. "

"I've lived here almost 20 years. My favorite passtime is walking around the neighborhood. Now that the pedestrian walkway is open again on the Hudson River Bridge, I enjoy walking downtown and crossing over into Inwood Park and eventually Inwood. There is another walkway bridge on Broadway and it's fun to take one into Manhattan and the other one back to The Bronx. The area is diverse and has an excellent elementary school as well as religious schools and places of worship. Van Cortlandt Park is a walker and biker paradise and is the third largest park in NYC. There is a raillink to MetroNorth as well as buses to the 1 and A trains and express buses to Wall Street, the East Side and the West Side of Manhattan. It's a wonderful place to live. So glad I moved here."

"It’s like living in suburbs without actually moving out to the suburbs. Love the neighborhood always feel safe. "
  • TRex1323
"There is really isn’t any space for us to grow. We have a river on one side and a city owned park on the other. Some see this as a benefit and some do not. Knowing how valuable space is in this city, Riverdale has just enough to grow, but not enough to become the next Downtown Brooklyn. "
  • Fudome1
"Extremely pet friendly neighborhood with a few dog runs. VanCortland Park is also within walking distance. "
  • Anel h.
