What Locals Say about Latrobe

  • Beth A.
"Some of the neighbors wave as they go past. They wave if we are outdoors doing something. However, this is a very busy street and a straight shot to route 30. Sometimes it sounds like a race track here! But Latrobe has a lot of holiday happenings that are really fun and family oriented."
  • Baccalw
"I’ve lived here 41 years, great area, close to everything and very convenient . Nice safe area, friendly people "
  • Alie Starr
"Great neighborhood! Families with young kids. Halloween is the best ! Feels safe and friendly neighbors "
  • Kinzie Deglau
"4 minutes long. No one is ever in a hurry. No one knows how to use a traffic circle. It’s alarming the things I have seen licensed drivers do trying to navigate a traffic circle. "
  • Jsb58_1999
"I was raised in Latrobe for the first 28 years. Great area to raise a family. Low crime in the area. Housing & cost are responsible "
  • Barbore3
"The homes are on large properties for the most part. Dog owners take their pets for walk regularly even though we don’t have sidewalks. They also clean up after them. Some back yards are fenced in so that their pets can roam freely. I do not hear any barking throughout the night."
  • Rachele A.
"Great neighborhood! Safe, friendly and peaceful! Latrobe also offers a lot of community events! Great school also!"
  • KellyM
"They would like that there are lots of dogs. But not a lot of green space to run them. People mostly pick up after their dogs too. "
  • Jflack0402
"My commute is easy, i travel to Blairsville for work every day and i have no issues. Traffic is light compared to other cities in the surrounding areas. Takes me roughly 15 minutes to get to Blairsville from my house. Depending on your route, you may very stuck behind a bus during the school year, but, they follow the speed limit so you won't have any issues with time unless you're really running late. "
  • Lovejennywren
"There aren't any sidewalks, and lots of speeding traffic, which makes it difficult & unsafe to walk. We drive to the nature reserve or the dog park."
  • Faithblaker
"Very quaint neighborhood that offers unique activities throughout the year. The town is extremely safe as well "
  • Sammikissel
"lots of places to walk. lots of yards to see. lots of sidewalks and drug dealers. nosy neighbors that hate other dog owners."
  • Ken
"There is a bus that runs through wimmerton, but as usual with Westmoreland county, no buses run after 6pm. This area caters to old people and then wonders why successful young people leave and the only ones who stay are either people making 100k plus and wont leave their relatives or drug addicts/alcoholics who compete for what's left. The lucky ones get plant jobs so they can abuse substances and drive in big shiny trucks. The rest work for minimum wage, sell drugs, or poop out kids for welfare and tax rewards."
  • Jflack0402
"Latrobe's Great American Banana Split Celebration is well known here every yesr along with the Westmoreland County Air Show. Also, it's not so much a community event, but the Steelers host their Training Camp at St. Vincent college."
  • Jeannine S.

  • Tylermag4848
"There is a lot of traffic on main roads in prime time, crossing can be tough but every street has a sidewalk! Lots of dogs in Latrobe so they’ll have plenty of friends to be made along the way, plus there is a nice path by along the creek and a big park too! "
  • Brian W.

"Great schools, the neighborhood is clean, the neighborhood is safe, nice parks, nice restaurants, nice grocery stores, nice shops, plenty if policemen, plenty if firemen, and most of the people are very family oriented."

"Currently live here - going on 15 years. There aren't many school systems in the area better than GLSD as far as academics go. There is a large health care and manufacturing presences in and around the area. There are several prominent universities such as St. Vincent, Seton and within commuting distance to the Pittsburgh universities of Carnegie Mellon, Pitt, Robert Morris and others. There are plenty of technology companies in the area a well as defense contractors providing for a nice skilled workforce."
