"Fairly quiet and rural small town with outdoor recreation and activities. Limited shopping, restaurants and night life. "
  • Anna G.
"I grew up in Mill Valley, California in the 70s and 80s. It was rural then and a small town. You easily knew everyone... and their parents. At that time the restaurants were pretty limited and average. This town and the county reminds me of Marin at that time. The bridge was a big boundary for many who were escaping San Francisco at that time and so Marin was remote. Similarly, this area is remote. Every entry to it is challenging. But once you are here it is delightfully peaceful. There is excellent hiking, biking, kayaking, boating. The lake gets smelly in July through about October. The folks are trying to vote in monies to deal with that issue. But it is a beautiful lake. "
  • Mark B.
"Has wonderful cultural/recreational activities with some of the best fishing in the world. Some of the cleanest air the the US Lakeport is a is a best kept secrets and only 2 hour drive from San Francisco, Sacramento . In the heart of nother wine country. Yet close the to red woods There is very little crime. Very friendly, neighbor oriented area. As for lifestyle, peaceful and quiet are the best ways to describe Lakeport, Ca. "

"I have lived in this neighborhood for almost 2 years now and have had a terrible time with safety for myself and my animals. There is a constant flow of foot traffic on 10th St. as it's the less busy way for walkers, bikes and other, small motorized contraptions than 11th st, coming from and going to Safeway shopping center. People constantly antagonize my dogs, feed them strange things- Once someone fed my dog a corncob that needed surgical removal ($1200.00 later). I've had a drunk man stumble into my fenced/gated yard, let my Bulldog off of his lead, and proceed to urinate all over my yard, on my daughters swingset, and on my dog! He was arrested at my house! I've also had my cars broken into several times- reported each time but no recovery of my stolen items. If you're looking for privacy or security of any kind, this area is not for you. The Pros: It is very close to main st, fun to walk to town and very close to safeway for those times you need a last minute ingredient for dinner! "
