What Locals Say about Clearlake

  • Tony S.
"Clearlake is not a good place to live. This area is poverty stricken and run down. Drugs, blight and hazardous vegetation is the stage in Clearlake. Most of the City of Clearlake is Economically Obsolete. "
  • Tony S
"25% of all the properties in Clearlake are in tax default, some going all the way back to 1981. The Citizens of Clearlake Highlands were promised paved roads, and that was 40 years ago. Most of the roads are dirt, and one cannot even go for a peaceful walk without getting assaulted by giant, thick clouds of dirt. The majority of all the lots are tiny, thus undesirable, so they sit dilapidated, year after year. There are massive amounts of hazardous vegetation, as well as garbage EVERYWHERE. The truth? I would not recommend the City of Clearlake to a prospective retiree. I am in the process of bettering myself, so I move near the ocean in Mendocino County. Clearlake is full of poverty, drugs and blight. I'm sorry, but that is the truth."
  • Carebearkeys
"I live in the keys and I absolutely love it. We have a dock and direct access to the lake. It’s quiet and there are not a lot of children in the keys. Most of the homes are summer homes. We have street lights and most of the streets end in a cul-de-sac."
  • Jessica L.
"my neighborhood is unsafe. there are such extreme potholes it makes it difficult for one to even travel down the roads. "
  • Mrs.M
"There are MANY stray animals around here. Keep your dog's in your yard to keep them safe. Unfortunately this town is a craphole."
  • Jessica L.
"Everyone knows everyone. People are very old fashioned in the way they are with others. The lake is beautiful "
  • anon
"There are stray cats everywhere in the neighborhood I live in AND often there are stray or loose dogs running off leash. "
  • Michelle P.
"We don’t really do anything in my neighborhood. The town of Clearlake does have random misc events every once and a while, like bands playing in the park, or movies in the park. "
  • Dcartplanes
"I belonged to the Clearlake Modelers club and I like the friendly atmosphere, even though the area has a drug and homeless problem and something needs to be done about the litter. "
  • crystal n.
"I lived in Clearlake my whole life. It’s a simple town that needs a caring community. The people are great even though most homes are falling apart "
  • Dcartplanes
"I lived in the area for 12 years and now I'm living in a motor home, driving around looking for a decent home and property that I can garden and have a mini orchard. I fish and am an artist. This area has an excellent model airplane club, I used to be a member. The water is good. The views can be spectacular. "

"This is only a couple miles from the nearby Wallmart and close to Cache Creek. It is only 14 miles from Middletown where there are all kinds of options for dining out!"
  • Erikb61
"Sure, like any city, there are some good areas and bad areas in Clearlake. My house is on the Northeast side, in the country but still in the city limits - I love it. I have met a lot of great people. I think one's view of Clearlake depends on their perception on life - either the glass is half full or half empty."
  • M M. M.
"Would have loved to live here but for the stench of the lake. It smells like a cesspool all summer--no way I'd get in the water, so thick scum and dying algae and dead fish. I feel for the people who have homes in the Keys--no way to get a boat in or out for the rotting vegetation and algae--smell like living in a sewer 24/7. A shame locals won't take care of their lake...."
