Types of apartment in Fort Wayne, IN
Fort Wayne apartments range from older brick walk-ups near Downtown, West Central, and Northside to newer garden-style apartments on the north and southwest sides. In West Central and around the ’05 area, you can find converted houses for rent with porches, steep roofs, and older wood trim. Near Downtown and along Fairfield and Broadway, many apartments sit in smaller brick buildings with simple fronts and shared parking. Around Aboite and Dupont, apartments often have vinyl siding, larger lots, and wider parking areas. On the south side near Southwood Park and in parts of East Central, houses for rent often include one-story ranch homes, older two-story homes, and some duplexes. Exterior style changes a lot by area. Older central neighborhoods have brick, clapboard, and some Victorian details. Farther north and southwest, buildings often look newer and more spread out. Inside, many older apartments can have radiator heat, smaller closets, and hardwood floors, while newer units often have open kitchens, central air, and in-unit laundry. The tradeoff is simple. Older areas can put you closer to Downtown, Parkview Field, and the Rivergreenway, while newer apartments often give you easier parking and more uniform layouts.
