What Locals Say about Seminary Hill

Review Highlights

Seminary Hill, Alexandria blends leafy calm with neighborly energy, parks, and quick DC access. People love the safety, green space, dog vibe, bus stops, and easy reach to trails and Old Town. They dislike heavy I-395 traffic, some car dependence, scarce dog parks, and rising prices.

"It’s a tight knit community and young professionals. It’s very safe here, I walk at night in the neighborhood. I could definitely see myself raising a family here. "

"Safe, nice well lit area. Neighbors know each other and look out for each other. Walking distance to some shops but definitely need a car. "

"Nice community with nice neighbors and easy accessible resources. Love the area also due to the Highway that connects north to my house "

"Lots of open space, friendly neighbors and LOTS of dogs (and kids)! People look out for one another and their dogs. The sidewalks are generally good but it does get hot on the tarmac. These are nits. Great hood!"

"Sense of community and a quiet neighborhood just steps away from all the great things Alexandria has to offer. It is eclectic, diverse and full of people who want to see the neighborhood thrive. "

"Lots of open grass areas within walking distance and all well lit and frequented by many locals makes it a safe and convenient neighborhood for dog owners. Most properties including townhomes in this area also include fenced-in backyards which provide relief during the day or while away; most townhome communities also have common grassy areas for homeowners to use."

"Neighbors are fantastic. Never imagined I would live next to people so handy and thoughtful. Feel welcomed. "

"A lot of green spaces and a dog park in 5 mins drive. Also a lot Major streets without fencing to keep dogs safe."

"I live in, mostly, a town home community. I feel safe here. A lot of walkable stuff. Lots of +$Mil houses. ~1.5 miles from old town. Love this place. "

"Dog friendly area specially in the small townhouses but not the big buildings . I highly recommend this area for small dogs only"

"I have lived on Ivanhoe Street for about 20 years. It is a quite, dead-end street of about 30 houses. The homes were built in the early 1960s. Most have brick exteriors, and are well-constructed. Neighbors are friendly, and there now is some "generational shift" in ownership (i.e., from long-time owners who are 60-90 to younger families and couples)."

"Moved to the neighborhood about a year ago. Wish there was a nearby dog park but besides that, quiet and friendly people. "

"Good central location and lots of amenities. People are friendly enough but don’t expect to know most of your neighbors."

"We've lived in this neighborhood for more than 17 years. Neighbors are friendly, many conversations to be had walking your dogs or strolling through the tree-lined streets. Easy access to parks with walking and bike trails, DASH bus stops throughout, farmer's market, libraries, schools, shopping centers, and the dog park are all an easy walk. The babies when we moved in are all graduating now and there have been young families moving in again as houses become available. It is a vibrant, friendly community with passionate, active members. The local schools are truly special. Although the population is diverse, all come together and support one another. We love this neighborhood!"

"Long. I have to drive and traffic on 395 is very heavy in the mornings and evenings. Traffic on side roads is also very heavy during key times at rush hour. "

"It is a short distance but the timing ranges due to accidents on 395- luckily there are many side street alternatives "
  • Kai
"Dog friendly, Progressive liberal community, 10 mins from DC, 13 mins bus ride to pentagon, and near major groceries stores."
  • Heather L.
"Quiet and safe area, family friendly, well-maintained and close to freeway. Plenty of grocery and shopping options nearby. "
  • Keith C.
"I have lived in the Plaza for close to six years. It’s a great place that many do not know about. There is a court yard with a garden - park like setting. It’s peaceful and the people are friendly. I have walked and done runs at night. I feel safe here."
