What Locals Say about Cathedral Hill

  • Trulia User
"It’s fair to say there are probably better neighborhoods for families with young children. However, I really enjoyed raising my son here. There are a couple of nice parks within a walking distance with a designated play area for children. My son was able to walk to preschool, elementary and middle school, which is not common in the United States. As a teenager, he still hangs out with his childhood friends who also grew up here."

"Not much to dislike for dog owners. We have a great well maintained park close by where dogs are free to run. Many happy looking dog owners on Cathedral Hill."

"Buses are easy to catch and walking is also pretty good. Uber is pretty expensive at rush hour, but walking is okay if done between 5-7:30. After that some areas are a little sketchy alone."

"This neighborhood is one of the most central places in the city! You can walk to Hayes Valley, Japantown, Fillmore, Polk Street and Lower Pac heights. There are many bus options from Van Ness and City Hall, Metro and Bart 10 are minute walk away. If you have a car, it is very easy to reach the highways or drive to the Golden Gate bridge. Parking is largely available too."

"There isn’t a lot of comfortable outdoor space to hang out in nearby. Polk Street is mostly bars. Not a great neighborhood for kids."

"I walk to work 4 blocks always looking down to avoid feces and needles. It’s grimy and very very dirty. It’s so sad how this city has become. It is the most expensive place to live in the entire world, yet it’s the most unsanitary place to walk. If you do not smell it I’m one block, you’re guaranteed to smell it on the next block: urine, feces, or someone/and or a group of homeless sitting down in plain site shooting up and getting high. It’s just nasty and wrong. We pay too much rent to walk out of our apartments , houses , condos or studios and smell stench with in the first few steps on the sidewaLk. "

"SF being windy is not news. But this location is only place you can experience wind blowing from all 4 directions at once. Other than that its a nice place to live. Street noise from Geary can be rather loud particularly with late night garbage trucks picking up. Hospital nearby will only make it more busy once its open. Convenient to walk to Polk street bars and Japantown. "

"I've lived here for 7 years and it is just the right mix of big city and not so huge city life. My gym and the park are a block away. The bookstore and coffee shop are on my block. The cinema, ballet, symphony, civic center and more are about one to two blocks. The Opera Plaza Condo complex is so nice - big plaza with water fountain - very friendly area. Walgreens is just two blocks away. I'm on the bus line. It is so nice here and they are putting in a CVS across the street. Nice walking areas with the big classic architecture all around. "

"centrally located, but is away from noisy traffic and bars, clubs and such. easy to get to anywhere in the city. 1 block from bus, walk to Hayes, Fillmore, Japantown, Whole Foods, Theatres, Polk St., Civic ctr, 5 mins to Union Square & finan. dist. Building has upgraded the interior greatly. Amazing Pool, sauna, hot tub, small but well-equipped gym with new equipment. excellent people and management. Dog Park on the property is great for pet owners. New management has really kept the property up with new landscaping and hallway carpet."
