Read what parents are saying about Winchester Thurston SchoolI attended Winchester Thurston from 4th grade to 12th grade. I loved almost every teacher I worked with and felt very well prepared for collage. The school dealt with bulling well and taught the students respect and compassion. The student to teacher ratio was perfect for me and class sizes were excellent. I can say that i truly loved my experience at WT
Posted by a student on 9/3/2018I noticed that earlier reviews complained about the lack of sports programs at WT. While my children do not participate in any programs right now, WT has a number of top notch programs, and they recently renovated the athletics wing of the school. The school is strong in track, lacrosse, field hockey, and basketball. Another nice thing about WT is all the extracurricular opportunities. They have a wonderful after school program with dozens of classes for children of all ages. My children have enjoyed pottery classes, lego classes, chess, ballet, acting, and more. They also have the most wonderful summer camp, which my children have preferred over all other camps they have attended (who could not love ice cream camp?)
Posted by a parent on 1/28/2015I am a parent of a rising senior at Winchester Thurston School. What an amazing experience our son has had. This is a three dimensional learning environment where a child's strengths are enhanced and a child's areas in need of improvement are stimulated and nurtured. Our son is excelling as will any child put into this environment. Opportunities abound and teachers and staff are ready to encourage, lead and expand understanding in math, arts, leadership, dance and and every area. They are constantly striving to include new ideas while resting on what carries them boldly into the future. "Think of the rights and comfort of others"..the school motto is a reality not a thought. Please explore what this school has to offer..Its sounds too good to be true, but I am here to tell you its all true, and our lives, our son's life will forever be affected by all this school has to offer, for the people within its walls and for the pursuit of excellence in all that it does.
Posted by a parent on 5/1/2014The most amazing school I have gone to. I'm in the Upper School, and it is the best learning experience I've ever had. I switched from my old school, and was extremely surprised by how well WT approaches their teaching. The teachers keep class interesting and understand we are individuals in how we learn and think. The environment is relaxed (in comparison to my old school where everywhere you went you were stressed) and the kids are amazingly smart and nice. Yes, the tuition is expensive, however I find that it is totally worth it. I've come out of my shell a bit (I'm usually quiet and reserved) and they create a drive in students to become the best they can be.
Posted by a community member on 1/16/2012We are parents with two children at the beautiful WT North Campus, and felt compelled to write after reading the prior review. Our experience at WT has almost been too good to be true. Every concern we've ever had has been addressed in exactly the manner we expected, our children have a differentiated curriculum tailored to their own personal talents and needs, we've met an amazing crop of great families, and, best of all, our children LOVE school. We literally have to ask them to stop dong homework on some evenings so we can get them ready for bed. Some other tidbits: There are roughly 100 students, PK-5, at the campus; the Head of School greets each one with a handshake every morning; the campus is HUGE (9 acres?) with a pond, woods, fields, a greenhouse, gardens, etc.; the school has a "family" feel -- the families all seem to know and respect one another; WT has a nationally recognized gifted program; teachers know the parents on a first-name basis almost immediately; the after-school programs are amazing; childcare is available until 6:00 p.m. each night for working parents; the school lunches range from pizza to sushi to baked chicken to gumbo. We love WT.

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageWTN (for the North Campus)since there is a city campus, too. Is a wonderful school. Two of our sons attended here, one for fourth and fifth grades and the other for second to fifth grades. We love the environment, the curriculum, the teachers, and the administration. The class sizes are small. The teachers are able to individualize instruction based on a students strength and weakness. The teachers use the environment ( a farm-like campus with a pond) to enhance the curriculum.Parent Review12y ago - Carnegie Mellon Cyert Center For Early Education

They do not have the experience or training to deal with race related issues and they failed my son.Parent Review5y ago - Small Wonders At Upmc
