3/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageWe have attended Cordova Elementary for a few years. We have seen different administrators come and go. The new principal really affects the Cordova experience from top to bottom. It is a family involved school and you can feel when the administrator wants family involved or not. Another problem is due to changing administration what seems every year, we have noticed the retention of some of the best teachers be a problem. After 1 to 2 years these teachers either transfer schools or no longer work for the system. Thankfully, the teachers we have experienced were devoted and great. If you have a Kindergarten student request MS. Binkley. The BEST Kindergarten teacher! When it comes to learning, I felt the school could have tried different and exciting techniques to help kids that normally have problems with concentration and absorbing large amounts of information all at once. If your child can independently do work and figure things out of his/her own, you would fare well here. I also felt there should have been more special programs for regular kids not just those in CLUE or Optional programming. Lastly, I hate to admit, bullying was a problem that I feel if you are not an involved parent that pushes the addressing of the problem, it would continue unchecked. Sometimes, you were made to feel your child is the problem or should handle it on his/her own to the detriment of his/her overall wellbeing. Instead of being proactive the school is reactive. It is too long of a process to address issues. Your best allies will be the Guidance counselor and the school security cameras. Lastly, this school is a good school, but if you are not an involved present parent, your child may not have a great experience. A lot of the teachers genuinely care about the success of your child. I have not experienced a teacher yet that I felt otherwise. Be Present, Vigilant, and Active.Parent Review9mo ago - Cordova Middle School

4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThe oven has been broken for the past 2 weeks, the food is gross and even then, they only give us about 20 min or less to eat. We only have 3 minutes to get to class. Everything is basically online now so if your kid wants to do online school then please let me, it's better than them into fights and eating gross food that's probably stunting their growth anyway. I would also like to point out that if you let your kid do online school then they may get 1 more hour of sleep. The majority of the teachers here are quite nice and helpful, but I will that any kids that are LQBTQIA+ may have a hard time here if they have a preferred name or if they're trans (most kids here are 14-18). I'm sorry to say this but if your child has a blood sugar problem (needs to eat snacks a lot) then they will have to pack their own snacks and most of the teachers here will most likely not let them eat in their class. overall, the pep rallies cost money, the food is bad, most teachers are nice, and the feeling of being rushed is common, so is being tired.Student Review1y ago - Check out schools near 960 Hunters Point Dr.

"It’s a neighborhood of hard workers who work a normal 9-5 and come home and relax. That’s about it, nothing too crazy or loud about it. The age range is quite diverse however everyone still seems to work normal hours and come home and respect others around them. "

"My family has lived in this area for about 5 years now. I have never felt unsafe, whether it is at night, during the day, weekends, or week days. The neighborhood holds a 4th of July parade that most of the kids participate in. There are lots of yard sales here when the weather is nice. Most people seem to own dogs, and after work there are lots of dog owners walking the blocks. This is a diverse neighborhood, with black and white, old and young, rich and middle class people in it. We have never had a problem with the area, nor do we know of anyone who has. The elementary school in the neighborhood has some fields behind it, but the closest park is about 2 miles or so away. It would be a nice bike ride. If I live in Memphis when I have a family, this wouldn't be the first place I would look, but I would definitely be happy if we bought a house in this neighborhood. "

"Lived in area- little known gem. Great neighbors, very quiet. Very close to Germantown shopping- more of a Germantown area where its located. Saddle Creek is 3 minutes, 385 also very close. My kids went to Germantown schools as transfers, all very close to house. Deer and wild turkey will come up to fences in neighborhood from greenbelt."
