"15 minutes to 279. 15 minutes to 376. 15 minutes to airport. 15 minutes to basically everywhere. across the bridge from north shore. 5 minutes to 51 or 65. no public transport in the overlook, but on the main street there are. just huge hills to get off the main street. my husband's commute is 5 minutes only because of the west end light. "I live in the overlook area. all the dogs are on leashes, never notice any poo (we have enclosed lot but mow the neighbors which is not enclosed). lots of dog owners walking to the overlook, most use the alleys, tho many of the streets are quiet enough to not worry for their dogs. I do not notice any barking for the dogs left in the lot except for one dog. but after a few years, we just ignore each other. you hear mowers and hammers more than cars and dogs. "

"I have lived here for a few years. We came from another neighborhood in the north side, after renting in north hills. i am not sure if it is the homeowner status or the neighborhood, but we love it. it is earily quiet except for the occasional hammer or lawnmower during the day. at night you hear kids playing in the distance. maybe its because i am in the overlook area, but you feel safe for the kids, the pets, and the home. the homes are all taken care of, i think the number of homeowners help. the neighborhood is mixed social-economically (houses between 10 and 210 thousand dollars, racially, age-wise, just a nice mix of everyone. We have cats, others dogs, others none and i am not sure the other reviewers talk about dogs. we only notice them on the leash and maybe its because we are enclosed in a fence, but never notice any on the yard. it is hilly, but there is plenty of parking in the overlook side. closer to chartiers and it is not as good for parking. it gets super busy and we block off our 4 off street parking spots during fourth of july. I do wish there"

"A doggy park. Perhaps the sidewalks can be repaired. Most of all, the people need to be educate owners on the responsibilities of owning a dog."

"It is a really nice community there are some problems that need to be take care of but I think that it is alright, there are a lot of people that have lived here for many of years and they have seen this neighborhood in such good shape and everyone was so nice and everyone that has lived here for 20 years are know saying that it has gone such done hill. "Quiet, blue collar neighborhood. Close to downtown but hilly. One two bus lines. Not a lot of dining but a couple nice spots and a new cool coffee shop. "

"Used to be a wonderful middle class neighborhood, now, its crime infefsted and delapilated"

"You find a little bit of everyone living in this area. The homes are reasonably priced. Crime is minimal and the streets are as safe if not safer than anywhere. Local shopping (i.e. within walking distance) is minimal but the Crafton-Ingram Shopping Center is a few miles away and similar shopping areas are nearby. Downtown Pgh is a few minutes on the bus (yes! a few minutes!) and the giant Mall and Shopping Complex at Robinson Town Center is about 15 minutes away by car. Thaddeus Stevens School (K-8) was just closed (2012) by the city (stupid!) so busing is the rule of the day. There are some great local parks that are under-utilized and virtually unknown to the locals (West End Park is a gem, Townsend Field, Hirschel Field, the West End Elliott Overlook, Goat Hill, and so on.)"
