3/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageWell.. this school is okay really, yeah there may be some discrimination and bullying here and there but it usually gets handled by staff if they care much, my current teachers are good really it's just the students here, it can be fun at times I can and cannot recommend this school, it's mediocreStudent Review4mo ago - Chula Vista Senior High School

5/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageTerrible. I chose to move schools from Southwest at a soulless attempt to have art curriculums in my transcript to get an extra grip onto art colleges, but that very small portion of my academic experience was simply not enough of an improvement from my previous school (Southwest High). This school will not support you academically. Teachers do not care about the success of students. They do not push you/challenge your skills, and very little basic skills you will need in college are not learned or reviewed. They are lazy in helping you surpass your present skills and attitude, but persuade you into wasting hours on doing 8th grade work and later ambushing you with complex assignments with 0 previous practice, assuming you know how to write academically, etc. It’s unfortunate how I, a sophomore in the school have to take my own time into researching and studying things that were not taught to me just to surpass freshmen level work. As a former Southwest High honors student, I saw such a sharp dip in teachers positive behavior. Almost every teacher here does not care about your future, and you will suffer from their lack of responsibility of being a good teacher. I would say it’s laughable how many teachers are unfit for teaching, except they made my mental health deteriorate and was the last straw for me needing a therapist. This is not just a single experience of a child trying to fit into a completely foreign environment, multiple people feel the exact same emptiness of spirit and, well, happiness in the school. Unless you fit in with a subgroup of students your an outcast destined for failure unless YOU do something about learning simple college skills. Southwest High School juxtaposes the spirit so vividly. I don’t mean to promote Southwest, but I will take into account how amazing that school is and felt. It is like a piece of home, you will enjoy being there, because the staff CARES about you, something Chula Vista wished they had. I have broken down 7 times from teachers mistreating me and the amount of stress I have been put under just thinking about the lessons I have missed due to the teacher negligence. Don’t let the infrastructure fool you, it is what you call “hallow in the inside”.Student Review1y ago - Chula Vista Learning Community Charter School

6/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI’ve had my kids in this school since there was a pre-school, now one is high school and the other in middle school… we have had our ups and downs of course, but at the end of the day we love it… my daughter now in high school had an issue with bullying while she was in the elementary school and I remember the issue was immediately addressed and the other child WAS made accountable for their actions and had consequences. The issue was handled very well and my daughter was went back to feeling safe and happy. Not only that but she learned to stand up for herself and speak in defense for others as well. I have many many many hours of volunteering in the classrooms, in the playground, workroom and in the office EVERY YEAR!! I have seen parents come and go and complain the entire time there either because they had to volunteer or it was to much time they had to give their kids or why doesn’t the teacher help them more, just always something with them. It’s not for everyone… my daughter and my son were part of not only dual emerge learning English and Spanish but also Mandarin which they really enjoyed. The amount of work they are given is definitely a bit heavier, but I was always thankful for the teachers that were always available to help.. they have tutoring hours and different after school programs and clubs to help. I believe no school, teacher or staff is perfect, but I also think that bad experiences with schools, teachers, or staff can all happen everywhere else too. The most important thing for me is the connection that I see between my children and their teachers, the community and teamwork with their classmates, and the curriculum in the class work or homework they have and I am very proud of them and I thank the teachers very much… This pandemic has been INSANE for everyone and online studies have been difficult for many kids across the U.S I imagine.. but I did notice those late conversations with my son (who struggled A LOT last year during the pandemic) and his teacher who would help him with his homework. I am thankful for everything they have done. Like I said many ups and downs, my kids have NOT loved all their teachers, but MANY of them have really made an impact in one way or another in their lives and they are very close to them… I remember not liking my teachers, thinking I had to much homework, and feeling overwhelmed, but that’s life.Parent Review2y ago - Check out schools near 757-59 Madison Ave.

"I commute from here to Poway but it’s not as bad as it could be like driving on the 805. I have found my routine and have been able to make the drive in 45min or less."

"Lived here since 2014. I have felt comfortable walking home at night 60% of the time. Just like anywhere else always be aware of your surrounding. It is a highly patrolled neighborhood since police station isn’t too far. Very family oriented neighborhood, with a moderate homeless problem on the main streets of the neighborhood. Many great place to eat locally. Gas prices are pretty decent compared to the rest of the SD county. "

"My current neighborhood is not one, in my perspective, suited for families with children. All outside factors of the area, for example, maintenance, front yards, parking and overall neighborhood look is horrible. Everyone is always fighting for parking, people park their cars for dayyysss in the same spot, and cars are parked in front yards/sidewalks. My car got hit being parked. My husbands car was broken into. As far as look, there is always trash, furniture, dog poops and alcoholic glass everywhere. Yards aren’t kept up. Area is over populated to the point that there is not enough parking for everyone. I literally park two blocks away from my home every day. Overall, not a good neighborhood for families nor does it feel safe. "
