"Elk River is a great community with a lot of activities for the young and old. Elk River manages to maintain a Norman- Rockwell-Americana ambiance while still being a short drive to modern amenities. What do I mean? YMCA, Target, Walmart, Home Depot, Menards, Cub, Coburns, etc. are all within 5-10 minutes but in downtown Elk River you'll find mom and pop bakeries, a butcher, florist, an ice cream parlor, a drug store, two local taverns and a couple nice diners. Just down the road is the old time skating rink, the trip to which will take you past well maintained Craftsman and Tudor style homes and white steeple churches. On Thursdays you can enjoy live music downtown at the riverside amphitheater for free. Just bring a chair, because the available seating quickly fills. If the kids get board with the performance, they can cool off running through the ever flowing water fountain at the top of the hill, made specifically for that purpose. "
