What Locals Say about East Village

  • Trulia User
"My dog encountered amphetamines on the street in east village. It’s not safe nor clean here. "

"Coming from the suburbs, it has been such a great experience. Everything is just so close. Groceries, parks, the airport, specialty stores( hardware, floral, etc), amazing restaurants and bars literally within 1-10minutes of a walk. VERY dog friendly… even in grocery stores as long as the pup is well behaved. Unfortunately, not terribly kid friendly, although there are a families with small children I’ve encountered here and there. Love it and will miss it when we leave to start a family"

"There are a lot of homeless in the area and party seekers make sidewalks dangerous. Great food options and proximity to Gaslamp."

"It’s prime downtown living, nice new buildings but there’s the downsides too. Lots of homeless people and it’s really loud. "

"Great looking buildings and modern apartments units with great amenities. It’s also a quiet neighbourhood. "

"I would not live here if I had kids. There is very little outdoor space and doesn’t feel safe at night. Homelessness and drug use are rampant. "

"It is an easy 15-20 min commute going north on the 5 in the morning, but the commute back in the early evening can be significantly longer. Getting around East village to do errands makes up for the commute, however. We have pretty much everything we need within walking distance."

"This is East of the downtown area, so a lot of high rise living. Although some families live in the buildings there are still homeless communities around the area; most who mind their own and seem harmless. There are plenty of coffee shops, places to eat and public transport (trolly) around. I’ve taken the trolly to the Mexico border and also over to Santa Fe (downtown) station to walk around. EV is also pretty central and you can get to other neighborhoods within 10-12 mins. "

"Homeless people and human feces on the sidewalk far too often and usually very loud throughout the day with homeless people yelling prophanities"

"Dogs everywhere but no dog park. Quartyard is okay but they really need a fenced in dog park. Some streets are lined with homeless but other areas are okay to walk your dog."

"Great if you like the night life and being close to gaslamp but the cons outweigh the pro’s as rent is high along with crime and the homeless."

"Not really a good place for dogs. There is not an abundance of parks in the area. There a couple places only. There is also some patches of artificial grass that smells badly everywhere "

"I lived in this neighborhood for 2 years. it's affordable but certainly not the safest. also due to gentrification, the prices are increasing in rent but the neighborhood isn't getting safer. if you don't mind the hood and an occasional shouting here and there, many transients then move here "

"East Village has a lot of potential. I moved because of the homeless issue, high rent, and filthy dog mess everywhere including the indoor hallways of EV apartments. It’s pretty bad and overpriced for rent rates for what you get and have to put up with."
