Guided by the principles of anti-displacement and racial justice, SFCLT stabilizes neighborhoods, and creates greater access to housing and homeownership opportunities with a focus on BIPOC communities previously excluded from access to wealth, and in particular, access to homeownership opportunities. SFCLT currently owns and operates 15 permanently affordable properties for those of low and moderate income spread throughout the City from Chinatown, to the Mission, the Tenderloin, the Richmond district, South of Market, and soon Russian Hill. 73% of our residents are below 80% AMI and 50% below 60% AMI. The 250 residents living currently in our 151 units of housing represent a diversity of races and ethnicities with 70% of our residents identifying as BIPOC. Also inquire about owning your apartment in the next 5 years! SFCLT is offering a unique and rare pathway to homeownership (in San Francisco!) for low- and moderate income households. Vacancies are open and applications are being accepted now! 285 Turk street is planned to be converted into a Limited Equity Housing Cooperative (LEHC) within the next 5-10 years*, which means renters at 285 Turk would get first dibs to become collective owners of the building. Should conversion successfully take place each household will be provided with support to purchase a share in the cooperative, entitling them to occupy their specific unit. LEHCs offer several significant benefits of ownership as opposed to rental: stable and secure housing from which tenant owners cannot be evicted; savings from accruing a modest amount of equity in the unit (1-2% per year); and an inheritable right to the unit which the shares represent, which can be passed on to your successors just like regular homeownership. Apply today and you could become a homeowner in the near future! There are a limited number of studio and 1-bedroom units available; applications are being accepted on a first come first served basis.
APARTMENT FEATURES & AMENITIES - On-site Laundry - Rent includes water/sewer, garbage & recycling - No smoking allowed - No pets, Service Animals allowed with special permission from SFCLT SECTION 8, VASH, AND OTHER RENTAL ASSISTANCE VOUCHERS ARE WELCOME!

What Locals Say about Tenderloin

  • Maria Roa
"Walking your dog would be a nightmare in this area. Dirty streets and unstable individuals/ drug use might not want to go for an evening walk in the area"

  • Denise Rizo
"Police fail to do their jobs. Housing should be top priority as people are literally dying on the street. The hush hush of open air drug use and there are dealers on most corners in the tenderloin. Live here if you are a risk taker. "

"Great neighborhood. And very quiet. But during Folsom weekend and up your alley weekend is pretty hectic here. "

"Parades and civic events galore. Every parade in the city comes through here. Every protest does too. It’s the government center of the city and it’s the most diverse in the city too, but homelessness is a problematic here. "

"There is a huge homeless problem, drugs, crime, and human and dog feces (like walking in a mine field) all over the sidewalks and its STILL expensive. shootings are common"

"This area is gritty but super convenient when it comes to food, shopping, and transportation to anywhere. It is walkable but not desirable at night. Plenty of bars and clubs within blocks from Union Square. The area is unique with history and comes with its own unique vibe. Dirty and grungy to the point of charm but not dangerous to explore."

"I’ve been living here for more than 10 years. Homelessness has become a much bigger problem. Drugs dealings are everywhere. Streets are dirty. I don’t think the city is doing enough to solve it. But I love the restaurants around here...taste and affordable."
