"people know each other and there are few loud cars going through. I'm not sure it's unique but it's the only place I've lived for the past 6 yrs. However, i prefer Central to South or east Austin at this time."

"Been here for over 6yrs. It’s ok. Cars peed by and many are rude. No theft or burglary has ever happened. Neighbor sometimes has his music high. But he’s ok. "

"I’ve lived in this neighborhood next to Lanier, now Navarro, high school, for 10 years now and have seen an improvement in home care and maintenance. The area is up and coming. Friendly neighbors and lots of retired folks/folks working from home. "

"Great place to live. close to downtown and the domain. great restaurants good shopping. The schools could be better but most kids go to a satellite school anyway. Over all good safe neighborhood. "

"Great community with everything walking distance. Neighbors are nice and friendly. Good vibes for young adults"

"I'm retired so I don't commute. When I was commuting to work I hated I 35. I had some slower options@ 183, Mo-pac, Lamar or Airport."

"The schools are not the best but I think they are workable. There is a fairly new YMCA with swimming, full gym, and fitness classes. Also we have a library close by. "

"people never have their dogs on leashes. my dog was attacked by another dogs whose owners let it run free. Seen multiple violations of dog safety, neighbors dogs have been kept outside without food or water, balcony and stair way smelled of urine and poop due to owners not cleaning up after dogs."
- Michael G.

"Fine. I work nearby. Getting to south Austin kind of sucks, 35 and Mopac are a PITA during rush hour. Easy access to highways."
- Cj_champ

"Work in Westlake, do the drive is not bad until I hit 360. The neighborhood & 183 aren’t too terrible. Braker by the Domain and Mopac gets busy sometimes."

"I don’t see what they wouldn’t like. You can walk your dog. It’s just a busy street not many parks to choose from though"
- Sarah L.

"People don't have the 'perfect,' most obedient rescue dogs here—they are just normal dogs. It's okay if your dog barks—you don't have to worry about being judged because of your dog."
- Pam R.

"Too many dogs here, and people don't keep them on their leashes."
- Jessica W.
- Resident

"North Austin does have access to a few dog-friendly parks, such as the Cedar Park Bark Park, and most neighborhoods and apartments provide an onsite dog park as well. However to get to off-leash trails you will need to commute more central or to downtown."
- Jennifer J.
- Resident
- 6y ago
"The commute is difficult because of very bad traffic. I live in a very desirable part of Austin with two major roadways, both of which are used heavily for morning commutes."
- Sarah Z.
- Resident
- 6y ago
"The commute is easy. My place has easy access to MoPac, 183, and I-35."
- Shaundre B.
- Resident

"The commute is easy to moderate. During school dropoff, lunch time, and rush hour it gets a little congested. Most of the traffic is on IH-35 and MoPac."
- Jessica W.
- Resident
- 6y ago
"Like in any other part of Austin, the commute will be longer in the mornings and right after work. However, it tends to be less congested than downtown or down south. There are also many ways to get to major highways such as 183 and MoPac."
- Joli K.

"My neighborhood has great potluck dinners. We also have a happy hour that rotates among the homes, and everyone loves it. At Christmas, almost all the neighbors decorate their homes and trees at the curbside, and at night it looks like a winter wonderland!"
- Desi M.
- Resident

"A well established neighborhood near MoPac and close to the Apple Computer campus, Dell, and Samsung Corp.—three of the major employers in Austin. It's near good schools, supermarkets, and the North Austin Medical Center. We have a good monthly newsletter, and many people use a neighborhood e-mail group to share announcements of interest to all. The streets and sidewalks are well-maintained, and taxes are manageable compared to houses near downtown. Most houses and yards are well maintained, and there are plenty of trees for shade during the hot summer days."
- Kay T.

"It's an established neighborhood with lots of oak trees and plenty of shade."
- Kara S.

"It's away from the hustle and bustle of downtown but still has a wide selection of restaurants and cool places to go. It stays true to how diverse Austin is while also being a great community."
- Jessica W.

"Our neighborhood has monthly events—spaghetti dinners, board game nights, and more—that are free for residents."
- Jay D.

"It's a mixed race neighborhood with schools and emergency services close by."
- Kara S.

"There are many elementary and middle schools in the area, and child safety is a big goal around my neighborhood. We not only have school zones in place, but crossing guards to make sure everyone gets across the busy streets safely."
- April H.
- Resident

"Some areas may not be safe for children or require full supervision of children for safety purposes."
- Elissa M.

"Good schools are in North Austin. There are a few schools that even top the list of best public schools."
- Ann W.

"A lot of the school districts here are really great. They have good markings, and the teachers are usually pretty awesome."
- Shaundre B.

"It's kind of a quieter place to raise children. Great police presence and nice neighbors. Everything is near you, schools are less than 5 minutes from home, and there is a pool."
- nurseellen1120

"Quiet neighborhood, tucked conveniently between major roads"
- Sarah

"I lived on Neans drive for two years before buying a new home. The street itself is relatively quiet and the neighbors were friendly. It was relatively diverse and most of the homes were well maintained. Unfortunately the neighborhood quickly deteriorated if you travelled two blocks in any direction. Gang violence was commonplace. There was a shooting at our daughter's bus stop. Late at night you'll be regaled by roaming bands of youths competing for the loudest rap/Tejano music from a car. Every morning we'd find trash on our front easement. Twice we had to chase transients out of our shed in the backyard. The police helicopter was a regular visitor and you're regularly treated to a show of the police chasing someone. Sometimes right through your yard. The nearest grocery store is filthy. Restaurants were fast food or 'Mom & Pop' store fronts of varying quality. Traffic is a nightmare and it seems that every driver on Lamar is competing for the title of 'Worst Driver in Austin'. The schools are laughable. We pulled our daughter out and home schooled one year. The second year she was accepted into an AISD magnet school and was bussed there and back. Be prepared for constant bullying, unless your kid is the bully. "

"Cool area. Something for everyone. Cool bar, great restraurants, and nice homes in the true center of the city. Easy access to most of Austin."
