What Locals Say about Downtown

"Parks, bar crawls, festivals, parks for running and picnics. Walks with families all of that but this isn’t my area"
- Trulia User

"I actually don't live in the downtown community. I admire the luxury apartments and think they are a great option for home owners "
- Trulia User

"worst area, homeless people all over, crome rate is at its peak. schools are very low rated. but it's growing and changing so hopefully in coming years there will be better situations. "

"Great area with lots of restaurants, bars within walking distance. We take a Lyft to Astros games, then walk home. Also walk to Rockets games."

"DescriptionDowntown is a bustling business hub and home to major attractions like the Houston Aquarium, with touch pools and a shark tank. It also has a vibrant theater scene, with the Hobby Center for the Performing Arts presenting musicals and dance shows. Large-scale sporting events and concerts take place at the Toyota Center. Local dining includes upscale grills, casual taquerias and sushi spots."
- Jenna P.

"Downtown does not offer a great environment for young kids from a safety perspective. Discovery Green is a great perk, however. "

"Downtown bars and restaurants, ease of access to sporting events, The rodeo, and all of Houston without being a part of traffic"
- Jordan R.
- Resident

"I work downtown less than a mile from my home. It usually takes me no more than 5 minutes door to door, with the exception of when there are major sporting events, concerts or conventions that bring in additional traffic to downtown. I usually walk to work during those occasions to avoid traffic. "

"It is more for single people who enjoy the city life. It is great for single people because it’s close to all the restaurants beer gardens bars clubs theaters concert venues Astros and Rockets."
- Jordan R.

"I also work downtown so I have the option to walk to work or take a quick 3 minute drive if weather conditions require me to drive. "
- James P.

"I don't like it when people don't clean up after their dogs and that happens a lot here. There should be consequences for those who don't clean up after their pets."
- Richard M.

"Being able to walk to work (if you work downtown) is why I live here. I also have an incredible view that you can’t beat!"
- Pizzabossnc

"There is little green space in the immediate vicinity. No dog parks or play areas. But most places appear dog friendly. "
- Rg.bigheart

"It takes about 30 minutes to trace from here everywhere In HOUSTON, but it’s scary at night. Many homeless people and panhandlers in downtown Houston. Many shelters in down town. Police doesn’t enforce anything around this area. For the most streets are clean in the areas where the homeless don’t hang around. The worst is on I-45 right at down town, homeless are in abundance to many to count."
- Pcmadamez

"not many parks super close but there is discovery green which is a lot of fun, close to a few good private schools "
- Kevin S.
- Resident
- 4y ago
"Driving to med center is fairly traffic free because I am driving counter current. However the on ramps are poorly designed. "
- Pcmadamez
- Resident

"there are a lot of great parks and trails downtown, also there are always really great things to do at discovery green like movie nights and skating"
- Pcmadamez
- Resident

"everyone is super friendly, the restaurants are great, right next to the metro rail and many bus stations going everywhere. easy access to all major highways, central to the coolest bars, clubs and breweries. can’t wait for the new dog park to be built"
- Ischoolcraft

"Lots of development of the area in terms is streets and sidewalks. Portions of the street are without street light to illuminate the sidewalks. "
- Noelia_furno

"Because I work in the medical center my commute is quite a breeze I walk 5 blocks to the red line metro rail and in 20 mins I’m at my work. "
- Jack D.

"I have lived in this area for almost a year and really want to stay. I like being able to walk or Uber to events and restaurant. Also enjoy being next to parks that you can exercise "
- Camilleisrad

"I'd say prob too many homeless ppl for unsupervised children. If you're living in a bldg w an arcade/etc and don't let them leave the bldg alone it could maybe work."
- Vernon J.
- Resident
- 5y ago
"I like walking my dog to discovery green, Market Square, Allan’s landing, Buffalo Bayou, and sometimes to Midtown Park. But it’s not for everybody, I like long walks and enjoying the outdoors."
- Jordan G.
- Resident

"Long but I work on the opposite side of town in west chase. So there is a lot of traffic downtown. Can’t complain it’s Houston. "
- Kelly D.
- Resident

"Living downtown is definitely for young people or empty nesters. There’s not a lot of kid friendly places to go."
- Kelly D.
- Resident

"I love living downtown. You walkout your door and there is always something to do. There is an excitement to living with theaters, sports and music 27/7. "
- Kelly D.

"There is nothing better than living downtown. The restaurants, theatre and metro rail is the best. Close to everything."

"I'm 4 block's North of Minute Maid. I'm right next to my job. I'm in the middle of everything. I'm not far from the downtown library. Wal-Mart is not far from where I am. "
