What Locals Say about Emeryville

  • Urbology
"You see so many people walking dogs and many are very kind and respectful owners. The sidewalks are maintained and there’s dog parks and fields for them to play."

  • Trulia User
"Lots of dogs in the area. Fairly responsible about picking up after themselves. Lots of foxtails (a weed that can harm dogs if they make their way into a dog’s body) in the area. One or two dog parks in the area, but ideal if you can have your own yard around here to have your own safe space to play. There are a number of great dog walkers and pet services in the area that cater to dog care. "

  • Trulia User
"The foxtails are unmanageable and you have to be really careful walking your dogs. Very few secure dog parks and not enough trash bins to dispose poop bags"

  • Trulia User
"There are a several schools in the area. There are several well maintained open spaces to play and exercise. Kids are not usually running/biking/etc around in the residential streets together unattended after school or during the summer, that I have noticed."

  • Trulia User
"Dog owners should be aware of the very high amount of dangerous foxtail plant, which can cause significant (and very expensive and possibly deadly) damage if they penetrate your dog’s paws, mouth, nose, ears, etc. Also depending on the street, some areas have more trash than others. There aren’t a ton of great spots to exercise your dogs, if you don’t have any yard. It’s not unfriendly for dogs, but it’s not overwhelmingly welcoming either. "

  • Rychelle M.
"There's a decent dog park by 63rd and Christie Ave. Overall, there's good walk paths and areas for dog parents"

"It’s close proximity to Berkeley Oakland and SF makes it unique to other neighborhoods I’ve spent time in. "

"They ll love it. It’s dog friendly. Many people also have dogs and they come to play with them "

  • Ashley K. B.
"There are some great green spaces, including a small park for younger kids. There are a ton of food options but most of them are for more expanded food palates (though that is changing). Streets are pretty busy and a train runs through the center of the city. It’s great for keeping young ones entertained, not great for keeping the youngest asleep."

"It’s great because it has access to so many great places in Berkeley, Oakland and SF, but it’s also a quiet place to live outside of those cities where you can drive to local stores and live in peace"

"It’s ok. There’s a lot of crime within this small community. There are a lot of commuters, small businesses and not enough families and kids. We are moving to Marin. "

"Clean and safe. Very walkable and nice bike paths as well. A lot of restaurants are only open on weekdays during business hours, so not as great for residents. But a good handful of places we can get to easily. AC transit into SF is very convenient."
