Read what parents are saying about Kanawha City Elementary SchoolStaff are disingenuous and appear not to care about your child's well being. They continuously break confidentiality and do not care to share other children's problems. One staff member shares others religious points of view and will go as far to say don't let your child play with that child and state the child's parents religious preference. Very disorganized school that does not follow through and do what they choose when parent leaves the building.
Posted by a community member on 6/4/2016As a graduate of this school I can honestly say that this was the best school I ever went to. Granted that was back in the late 90's and early 2000's when Ms. Valentine was there, she has since retired but I do know that some of the teachers are still there and they still implement Ms. Valentine's caring and compassion approach at education. 5 stars by a long shot!!! I truly believe I would not be the man I am today if it wasn't for my time at this school. -Dylan Class of 2002
Posted by a community member on 12/12/2013As a second year parent at KCE I find the school to be well run, clean and safe. The principal and/or other adult greets students by name every morning. The students are respectful and always orderly. All teachers my child has contact with are excellent teachers and caring individuals. We are involved parents and the school welcomes our involvement and our presence at any time. I believe the staff has high expectations for every child and the principal has high expectations for all staff members. Academic performance is rewarded and my child is challenged. I'm very pleased with the school.
Posted by a parent on 8/28/2013KCE is a great school that has strong teachers and a good principal. The kids are well behaved and the parents are very involved.
Posted by a community member on 8/28/2013Been here 2 years and I am very happy. The academics are better than the previous Catholic school. My kids love it and they do great both learning and socializing. I am sick and tired about parents complaining about " stern" teachers. If kids follow simple rules, nobody gets yelled at. Not all teachers are strong, but I do believe in beings personally involved in my kids' education.

5/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy son has disabilities and he gets wrote up all the time and take away his field trips because they didn't want to have to deal with him. But the kids who are related to people at the school and/or are favored don't get anything said to them they don't get wrote up or anything. It's not right and my heart is broken because of the way my child struggles with problems that he tries his best to control but sometimes can't. Its not right.Parent Review3y ago - Ruffner Elementary School

3/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI've had to transfer my oldest daughter from Dunbar to this school due to being bullied and suicidal ideation. When I transferred her here, she excelled, and is doing a lot better. Been here for 2 years now, with this our last year. Definitely recommend this school to parents looking for a great school for their children to excel. Just found out they have PreK and I'll be sending my two youngest here.Parent Review8y ago - Mountaineer Montessori School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageWe love, love this school. All our three kids went there, they have fun but also the spiritual and academic foundation that the school provided, is beyond words!! SHGS help us to integrate with the community when we move from out state, the principal is awesome as the teachers... and thought SHGS programs (scouts, communion) we ended to make a friends for life!!! We will be for ever grateful !!!!Parent Review6y ago - Christian Family Academy
