Big Foot High School

We moved from Illinois after mainly being summer visitors in Fontana. One of our hesitations was putting our kids in a new school. We came from a suburb with highly rated schools (and high taxes). We didn’t really know much about Fontana School because our usual visits to Fontana were spent on the water, but I can tell you that Fontana has an AWESOME K-8 school. In fact, there is a day care attached to it as well.The school has been one of the highlights of our move. Principal Torrez has done an outstanding job setting a high standard of excellence at the school. Everyone at the school genuinely cares about the kids, from the administration to teachers to support staff. As a result, my kids love going to school and have excelled in their young years, especially with reading and math. They are also enriched with many other subjects like music, art, social studies, foreign language, gym class, a new technology center, and a library in the center of the school. The librarian has ordered sports books for my son because she knows his interests in a particular sports team. Class sizes are small and as a result the teachers know the kids very well. Every morning there is staff and usually the Principal welcoming the kids to school, greeting them on a first name basis. The school and the teachers communicate on a regular cadence so the parents are always in the loop. The few times I have sent an email to a teacher, a response was sent back quickly and thoroughly addressing my question. It seems the school had a negative reputation in the past, which I can’t really speak to because we weren’t there yet. Principal Torrez took over in 2019 and quickly began to change things. The school and staff are now OUTSTANDING. Fontana is a great place to live and offers a first-class school for families with elementary aged kids.

I changed to walworth when I was in 8th grade and felt so far behind. The teachers really helped me to catch up and feel like I was ready to move on the high school. Now I have a daughter that goes to walworth and i still find the teachers to be among the best and most caring I have ever encountered
