Whitman Elementary School

My child is on an IEP. I'm used to advocating for his needs and being disappointed with his educational experience. However, this past year at Fawcett was really my son's best year. He was excited about school and liked all of his teachers. I felt he was getting his needs met and was pleasantly surprised by the special education staff. The only complaint I have, is there was some bullying and unresolved issues with name calling and berating. Also COVID cut our year short but the teachers did a solid job with online instruction.

My son attended here for half of his 2nd grade school year then I pulled him after he had been bullied for over a week and the staff did not tell me. I informed them of what was happening but my son was too scared to be honest to the counselor. His teacher was kind and put in a lot of effort with him but the lack of awareness and parent communication from the rest of the staff left my son at risk of physical harm.

Great, the school focus on academics is wonderful and structure helps the whole school stay on task! A bit of a grey area when it comes to discipline but I think they are doing their best considering the 75% of the entire school being LOW INCOME families..... they have a before and after school program that is used to watch those kids who dont have a safe place to go after school tooThe parent and teacher communication could be a bit better. Maybe have a once a month night meeting for ALL STAFF to come to and talk about issues together and hopefully the communication can help the way they displine and teach all our children as a whole... at HOME and at SCHOOL It takes a village and the villagers need to communicate

Perfect school! My kids loved to go there every day. Teacher and all personal of the school are very kind and nice people.

I have had 7 kids attend this school within the past 4 years and unfortunately our family has not had the best experience. There are very few caring teachers/staff, parents voices are not heard when it comes to concerns/safety for our children, they don't contact parents regarding issues at school, they don't care about issues the students are dealing with, bullying is tolerated, staff members encourage students to try sexual acts upon other students during school hours if they're unsure of their own sexuality. The list goes on. I do not recommend this school to anyone looking in the area. Please do research before sending your child here.
