Read what parents are saying about Alki Elementary SchoolTeachers at this wonderful school are caring and extremely qualified! While there are many different teaching styles, the kids leave having experienced a great variety of styles. The principal from the past several years was simply gifted and extraordinary…. Her replacement is very new and has a very different style…. So the jury is still out on him.
Posted by a parent on 6/2/2021During our years there, Alki was always friendly, happy school with an overall strong community and few problems. The school gets "good test scores" meaning a high percentage of students get at least 3 (meeting standard) on the SBA, higher even than other schools in similar neighborhoods. Teaching is focused on the 2-3 borderline, and teachers are very professional and effective at getting students up to standard who might not otherwise be there. For bright, advanced students, on the other hand, academics are somewhat weak. This is typical of Seattle and not unique to Alki. The one bright spot at Alki was a walk-to math program built up by the former principal. It's not clear if the new principal (started fall 2020) will continue it.Housing prices in the neighborhood have been jumping upward, and the school population has gradually shifted toward wealthy families. The PTA has gradually shifted from being low-key and focused on school activities and fundraising to being politicized with a lot of woke virtue signalling and taking notes on who applauds for how long.
Posted by a community member on 5/17/2021Alki Elementary is a strong community of educators that care about the whole child. The school focuses on social-emotional learning in addition to academics. The location is amazing! I trust my children are getting an amazing experience at Alki.

7/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy daughter is in Kindergarten here. Her teacher speaks to all of the parents every morning and has great communication with the families. I always know how my daughter is doing and how her day went. She loves classes like garden science and is learning her numbers and letters quickly. There is no shortage of parent volunteers for this class. We feel really fortunate to be in this school district and in Mrs. Smith’s Kindergarten class at Lafayette.Parent Review1y ago - Holy Rosary School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI do not recommend this school at all. The teachers are always right and the students' opinion is never valid. Even if you voice your opinion, the school will not allow you to continue there. The teachers and principle continue to make favourites, they allow them to call down to the office any time that they like, pull them out of class for no real reason, and let them do things with younger grades. If you are a child of colour then you are automatically considered a problem child. This school is focused on faith(Which is not a bad thing), but they do not consider that not everything has to revolve around it and don't consider that the lives of the children matter more. The teachers don't own up to their own actions, they say the opposite thing that they originally said before, then making it the child's fault. The school wastes money, they have so many fundraisers but spends it on painting a lion in the gym. The teachers are forced to work really late; they stay way after hours to finish their lesson plans.Parent Review1y ago - Gatewood Private School

3/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI think people frequently over exaggerate how bad this school is. i mean, of couse they do. people rarelt like their own schools, because people rarely like learning. ive been at this chool 9/10 of the years its been in operation. ive never been to another school, so im not sure houw accurate this will be. i dont think this school is great but i would not say this school is horrible. some of the eachers are less than ideal, but still do a pretty good job of teaching. the principal and vice principal is where a significant problem arises. they do not know how to deal with conflict, or how to treat all studens equally. the students are mostly fine. i cant give a review on them because your treatment by students really varries on who you are, what grade youre in, and what year youre going to this school.Student Review2y ago - Fairmount Park Elementary
