Lakewood Elementary School

I rated this school 5 stars because while there are things to be worked on, they are working on these things. The teachers and all of the staff are very friendly and open. They are amazing people to be around. They are working toward a better behavior management system where students will be emotionally and socially supported but also have consequences for their actions when necessary. This is one of the things that is lacking but there is no lack of attention to it. Finally, this school is focused on the whole student (social, emotional and academic). This is something I have never seen in a school and am amazed at the efforts put forth by staff to acknowledge and accommodate for as well as teach those who need support in all areas. I really appreciate this school and what they do.

I give this school one star, mainly because I think most of the teachers are great at what they do. I feel they are quite unorganized at the office, denying my daughter lunch on the last day of school even after my husband showed up and paid her past balance of 1.25 AND depositing the amount for the last day. On top of the bullying issue, this was the last straw for me.

Love this school. Teachers and staff really care about the kids and are very friendly. There are plenty of school activities as well as a great PTA. The school is clean too! I have a 2nd grader and kindergarter. My only issue is that kindergarten is only part time unless a tuition is paid which seemed strange to me seeing it is a public school. If we made less money my son would be able to attend full time kindergarten for free but because we are just above the level we have to pay $250 a month for full time K but the class filled up with those receiving free education that there wasnt any room for those who actually pay, that I feel needs to change but think it may be a state funding issue not a school issue.
