Read what parents are saying about Kirkland Middle SchoolWhat an excellent middle school. It is one of the smallest in the district, perhaps the smallest. The teachers really know the students they are teaching. When our daughter was there, the principal knew every student by name and she spent time walking around and talking to the students. It is a very caring environment that is very nurturing to students. The librarian offers a wonderful environment with books but also a maker space at lunch time that students enjoy. After school sports sports are fun and engaging and many of the kids love participating in theatre. We are so fortunate to have this wonderful middle school in our community.
Posted by a parent on 5/23/2023This review is specifically regarding the administration. The current administration should be ashamed of themselves. They have come in and completely revamped the culture of the school, and not in a good way. They are pushing amazing educators and office staff to the point of leaving because of the toxic environment they have created. Your best math teacher, and one of the most highly regarded and sought after math educators in this area, has been treated extremely unfairly this year and has been so miserable because of it that she took half the year off. No teachers should be discriminated against or otherwise made to feel like failures during this incredibly difficult year, ESPECIALLY highly distinguished ones with 30+ years of experience. Shame on you. Start treating your teachers right.
Posted by a community member on 6/13/2021My daughter attended Kirkland Middle School for 2 years before we enrolled her in a private school. The environment is full of bullies (with the biggest one being the old PE teacher!) So sad that this culture is tolerated! My only regret is not pulling my daughter out earlier.
Posted by a parent on 10/17/2016KMS has been a great school for my kids. I have had 3 kids go through and they have had a uniformly excellent experience, both academically and socially. I think that the principal is very good at both attracting high quality teachers and retaining them. The staff is very caring and committed to educating and supporting all of the children, whether they are at the high or low end of academic success. A lot of effort and thought is put into creating a safe, supportive environment. I have high academic expectations for my children and for the schools they attend, and I have been very satisfied with their experience at KMS/KJH.
Posted by a parent on 1/14/2014I would not recommend sending any child to this school, not only did my child suffer a major academic decline in the time there, my child was bullied at school, on the bus and even during extra curricular sporting events. The bullying was so intense my spouse and I witnessed it at an after school game and were in utter shock at the flagrancy of the kids. When I say bullying what I mean is constant verbal abuse, physical threats along with several students taking turns shoving students in a circle, physically being kicked out of seats on a bus along with several other things that are far too hurtful as a parent to go on about. After several attempts with the school counselor and vice-principal to address the situation head on, we were completely let down by the schools nonchalant attitude and lack of willingness to execute their "zero tolerance bullying policy". Not to mention the fact that every student signs the same code of conduct that comes in the handbook at the beginning of every year that clearly states students must not physically harm other students. I believe faculty mishandled this severely, actually creating more of a problem than before. Academics were weak at best.

7/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageWe have had mixed experiences at Bell. The first few years the school was going through high staff turnover and my child had some very inexperienced and ill-equipped teachers. The classrooms were in constant chaos and minimal learning was happening. It was stressful for my child and efforts to work with the administration to improve things went nowhere. Thankfully, things have improved the past few years. My child has had better, more tenured teachers and as a result has made more progress academically and is happier at school. That being said, even the best teachers can't overcome some of the institutional problems - too many kids per classroom and not enough staff support to offer true differentiation for individual abilities. If you have a child who is above grade level, be prepared that they will spend a lot of time reading silently or using quasi-educational apps on the computer. I believe this is a problem at many LWSD elementary schools and not unique to Bell. They seem to do a better job helping struggling learners rise up than they do helping advanced learners progress. One thing that Bell does well is social/emotional learning. They have a fantastic school counselor and lots of programs to foster overall student well-being. This is so important and very appreciated, especially post-pandemic.Bell also has a strong PTSA and lots of community involvement, which has a positive impact on all of the kids. There are many fun school-wide events and lots of extra-curricular activities to choose from. Overall, I think Bell is a good school that is getting better, but it's hit or miss depending on the teacher, and there is still a lot of room for improvement.Parent Review1mo ago - Juanita Elementary School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy daughter's experience at Northlake Academy's kindergarten has been exceptional. Despite coming from a different language background, she swiftly adapted and excelled in picking up English, a testament to the school's effective language transition programs. The teachers have played a crucial role, being not only super helpful but also genuinely kind, fostering a supportive learning environment that has positively influenced my child's educational journey. One standout feature is the school's curriculum, which has propelled my daughter's learning a year ahead. The academic advancement reflects the school's commitment to providing a challenging and enriching educational experience. This emphasis on academic excellence has instilled a love for learning in my child, making her time at Northlake Academy truly invaluable. While the school excels in academics, it's worth noting a minor area for improvement—the playground. While lacking a bit in terms of facilities, the overall price-to-quality ratio at Northlake Academy is impressive. The exceptional learning environment, dedicated teachers, great teachers to students ration and accelerated curriculum make it a top choice for parents seeking a quality education for their children.Parent Review2mo ago - Evergreen Academy
