Posted by a parent on 11/20/2018Much improved these last few years. Engaged teachers and admin staff. Student learning is up and discipline issues are way down. Comparing the demographics to other schools, this one is really outperforming the other high schools in Suffolk.
Posted by a community member on 2/28/2017I believe a lot of the issues stem from the top. The school needs a new Principal. If you have an issue in regards to how things are handled with your child don't bother notifying the principal because she will ignore all correspondence.
Posted by a parent on 1/29/2017Kings Fork Middle School has been a wonderful experience for my 8th grade daughter. She is a high achiever who has been blessed with teachers who love teaching and are passionate about what they are teaching. The student population can be rough but if students are raised to make good decisions they can avoid the drama.
Posted by a parent on 1/10/2014KFMS is awful I've been there for two years and I've only had four decent teachers. The food is horrible, the school is not safe at all. Most of the teachers don't care about the students they just care about getting a paycheck. There are always fights happening and always people getting bullied. I really don't get bullied but I've seen people get bullied. A lot of times teachers blame students on doing things just because of past experiences. The teachers lie about the students to administrators and parents. The teachers are more worried about suspending and disciplining students instead of teaching. A lot of teachers give pre-test that are a a big part of a students grade which the things in the test haven't been taught yet, or they give test and a bunch of work to students and expect them to learn it without students being taught either verbally or by seeing something and it being explained. The teachers and administrators worry more about dress code than teaching and educating students. The school is horrible and I would not recommend this school to anyone I wish I could leave but I think I'm just gonna have to deal with it until high school.

3/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy first experience with EFES was attending an orientation with the then “new” principal and assistant principal. We shared enthusiasm and energy to a new relationship. The Pitchkettle community is packed caring people but I do not see that carrying through to the school. I met only two parents in my child’s class so far. I see the classroom environment vicariously through the eyes of the teacher, my child and the other students. According to your website EFES rates among the bottom 3 schools in this city. This rating is based on a variety of measures, including academic performance and equity. Question: Are the GreatSchools ratings official? Why is the gap so huge? What can the community do to close the gap?My evaluation below is based on their potentialParent Review2y ago - Hillpoint Elementary School

5/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageIf your child goes to this school I urge you to dive deeper into the school processes. Ask them about what happens when a student is in crisis, or something dangerous happens. They have one staff member who is responsible for all discipline concerns. Staff members are not treated with respect and have so many useless tasks piled on them, they aren’t effectively able to teach your children. The dean and teachers are doing their best, however administration and central office are failing the students. The current 2/10 rating is more than appropriate.Teacher Review3mo ago - Nansemond-Suffolk Academy

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThis school, like any school, is what you make of it. It offers academic programs for the extremely academically gifted students and those who are regular students. My daughter moved to the school in 2nd grade from a Catholic school that had not yet taught her to read. She was behind when she started at NSA. She has been fostered and nurtured by her teachers. She just finished her 9th grade year and is at the very top of her class academically. She loves her teachers and her group of peers. Middle school teaches focus and how to study. High school takes off immediately with the academics. If your kid puts the work in and makes good decisions, the school will help them work towards their dreams. Coming from a public school, I have never seen a more devoted upper school guidance counselor and college counseling group.Parent Review9mo ago
