Read what parents are saying about G.H. Reid Elementary SchoolI'm just getting to know a first grader here and am super-impressed with her reading skills and love of reading. I give full credit for this to her teachers at G.H. Reid. Also, I love how the children are greeted in the morning - such a welcoming place for children. We also participated recently in an after-school party for first graders for whole families with pizza for all. The evening was focused on Pete the Cat games and book reading. Super-neat way to make reading fun for the kids and engage the whole family in the process.

I'm relatively new to the area and am really surprised to see such awful reviews for GH Reid. I work in the building (not as a teacher) and have seen first hand the love, dedication, and care shown to the students. There are plenty of complications that go on in any school, but after teaching in other school systems I feel confident in saying that the issues that go on at Reid are glimpses of the deeply rooted, structural short comings of the Richmond Public Schools system. As a proud member of GH Reid team, I know that I, along with countless other staff members work extremely hard to take the best care of our kids and do everything we can to help them to be successful.
Posted by a principal on 12/14/2016Awful school!!! My 2 kids were sent here as a result of rezoning from j.l Francis and I am so disappointed, they don't allow parent participation in class or field trips, the teachers that I've experienced (grade 4) are rude with no real desire to be teachers, the principal seems more interested in appearances than running the school, bugs in the cafeteria, it is so bad we are actually in the process of trying to move from a house we love to get away from this awful ghetto mess of a school

Posted by a parent on 5/20/2013Our family just moved here from another state and I am very disappointed with this school. There was a police presence on the first day of school to maintain order (not a good first impression). If your child has special needs DO NOT even attempt to send your child here. This school is very discriminatory and insensitive. They will give your child the boot and send he or she to an "alternative" school but of course under the guise of the transfer being "in the best interest of the child" instead of making accomodations for your child.

2/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageWe have had a wonderful experience at WHES. My child is getting ready to finish his kindergarten year and is thriving, reading beyond a first grade level. The teachers and staff are warm and welcoming and have created a nurturing environment for learning and growing. In addition, the after school enrichment options are endless with clubs ranging from cooking and lego robotics to outdoor arts and tennis. We couldn't be happier with this his school and look forward to seeing what the next school year brings!Parent Review11mo ago - Broad Rock Elementary School

3/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThe buses are 45 min last in the morning and afternoon in the beginning of the school year. During the school year it's just a frequent surprise. The children are subjected to extraordinary long days in extreme weather. Parents especially single patent just given it is what it is explanation. Funds need to be allocated to stop this clown show.Parent Review8mo ago - J A Chalkley Elementary School

3/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI was employed at the school. This place has a notorious reputation for being a poor school. I worked there for a year and was forced to resign due to the principal, giving me such a poor review after several struggles with behavior, problems, ranging from students, destroying my classroom and fits of rage, throwing chairs, and fighting each other. I mentally could not handle the stress, and it affected my professionalism. There were teachers who disrespected other teachers asked inappropriate title, nine violation questions such as Are you gay? they would also refuse to assist in any disciplinary action when extreme behaviors hindered the class from learning. even during a classroom observation, the principal chose not to intervene with two kindergarten students who were physically attacking each other, and I had to be in the middle of it. I thought that this was incredibly unprofessional, and was a chosen act to have me look bad, so he could prove that I wasn’t meeting the standards of a teacher who could continue working for CCPS. after being placed on administrative leave pending my non-renewal of my contract, I chose to resign and put the matter to rest for my own well-being. Now I’ve just been left, struggling to make ends meet as a teacher working in a lower paying job than before, w-paying job than before, with my reputation hindered due to false and one-sided accusations. I wish the school no luck, and I hope reform comes down the line to help the students at the school progress forward and not backwards each year with new administrations and continuing behavior and disruptions throughout the school year each day.Teacher Review5mo ago - Miles Jones Elementary School
