Read what parents are saying about Oscar Smith Middle SchoolThe administration treats these kids like juvenile delinquents. I'm presently searching for a home outside of South Norfolk because this school is the worst. The kids are restricted on nearly everything. Being a prior Tiger Alumni this is saying a lot I don't want my kids to have to deal with this school's nonsense. The principle is definitely part of the problem (top down). Take your children else where.
Posted by a parent on 9/13/2021For the last two years its been the WORST experience ever. PRIOR to the new staff the school felt like family. Always encouraging. The new staff is there for a paycheck not to educate nor to encourage the students to do well. They are the WORST!
Posted by a parent on 9/2/2020I'm grateful for the administration at Oscar Smith Middle. They are always 100% behind our PTSA and even though our school has over 1000 students, they know each and every one by name. I've never seen an administration so dedicated to making sure each and every student gets a quality education in a bully free environment before. And having the added challenge of being a title 1 school, makes what they do even more impressive
Posted by a parent on 11/26/2015I've really enjoyed sending both my sons to this school! The school is new with technology, the floor plan makes sense so students and staff can conduct scholarly business. The staff is fantastic, your childs' teachers stay in contact with each other to help improve their learning. I wish my boys enjoyed gym time more oftened, however the staff really limits what they do with activitys. If I could change one thing, it would be the school lunches they are not very healthy or tasty. Overall your child will excell in their learning.
Posted by a parent on 10/30/2014This school is good for your child to go to. I just pass to the 9th grade. The teachers in this school provide you with help when you need it . There are a lot of activities you can join . The teachers there are so nice you aren't gonna want to go home . If I have to pick a school it will be this one.

She is headed to the 3rd grade and reads above grade level. Each year her teacher inspires her to keep reading and growing! She has been invited to the Summer Enrichment program for the last two years! We LOVE everything about T.M.E.!!!Parent Review9mo ago - Portlock Primary School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI would not recommend sending your child to this school. My son was in the Pre-K class. This was a small class of 10 children (7 Girls 3 Boys). The Teacher of this class had poor classroom management and made my child out to be a discipline issue. Which in reality he was a typical 5 yr old boy full of energy and was a little rambunctious. Instead of working together to figure out ways to help him focus and sit, the teacher and the principal "demoted" my son to the 3 yr old class. Where he remained for the last part of the school year. Because they didn't want to deal with it! As a result of this I feel as if they set him up for failure and did not make sure he was getting the proper lessons and skills he needed for Kindergarten success.Parent Review2y ago
