Read what parents are saying about Indian River High SchoolMy kids and I love this school. They love the teachers and administration at this school.
Posted by a parent on 7/29/2023Principal never emailed back after many attempts. Staff taking tickets at basball games. Ladies taking tickets at baseball games are extremely rude and I professional. I can’t imagine my kids having to deal with no feedback and unprofessional teachers all day.
Posted by a community member on 6/5/2023I am not impressed with the Indian River facility and staff. It is unfortunate because I am an IRHS graduate and alumnus. While I do not have children my nieces and nephews all attended IR. The last one will graduate in 2020. In short, they are guarded and rude. I have attended school functions for the past 7 years. I have seen the principle (Mrs. Dunbar) on numerous occasion. I smile and say hello and she looks right thorough me. Her rudeness is exhibited by her staff. The same thing has happened when with the assistant principles. I find them uncaring and unapproachable. When I see Mr. Frye at event he still speaks. He genuinely cared about the students and community. I understand the safety and welfare of the children should take priority. BUT, if you have seen the same person at events for the past 7 years it might be a good precautionary measure to have a casual conversation. Blank stares and unresponsiveness only goes so far. Has the school system changed this much over the years? These people cannot be properly training our children for the next phase in life. This goes beyond administering a curriculum and attempting to get satisfactory SOL passing percentages.
Posted by a community member on 11/14/2019I would not recommend this school to anyone. The school administration was horrible to me and only supported those doing poor in school. Although I got good grades, I was very depressed and I was made fun of by the administration and some teachers. I've never heard of a school more childish and my college friends were appalled when I told them stories. I'm not sure why the counselor did not once talk to me about events that happened while I attended Indian River, but I can say that the people that go to this school are the most disrespectful and trashy individuals, and the administration alike.
Posted by a student on 5/18/2018As a teacher at this school for 30+ years, after teaching at three or more other schools, I found the administration supported students, parents, teachers, community who deserved it. No one groups was supported above the others. (Presently retired)

She is headed to the 3rd grade and reads above grade level. Each year her teacher inspires her to keep reading and growing! She has been invited to the Summer Enrichment program for the last two years! We LOVE everything about T.M.E.!!!Parent Review9mo ago - Portlock Primary School

5/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageSurprised with how many good reviews this school has, the staff is pretty much don't care for special needs children and don't care to hire the right staff to do so. This is the kind of school you'd wanna keep your child away from due to the gossip that they hear from the teachers. Its like everyone is for themselves here and not a team working together.Other Review8mo ago - Cathedral Of Faith Christian School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI had a great time visiting Basic Primary one of the most incredible schools I have ever been to in Virginia. They have amazing teachers who strive to ensure each student is learning new things at their own pace. The classroom environment is remarkable. There is so many engaging activities for children. I am so proud that I had an opportunity to visit with this very welcoming team of staff members. Thanks to all the wonderful teachers at Basic Primary.Parent Review1y ago - Providence Christian School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI would not recommend sending your child to this school. My son was in the Pre-K class. This was a small class of 10 children (7 Girls 3 Boys). The Teacher of this class had poor classroom management and made my child out to be a discipline issue. Which in reality he was a typical 5 yr old boy full of energy and was a little rambunctious. Instead of working together to figure out ways to help him focus and sit, the teacher and the principal "demoted" my son to the 3 yr old class. Where he remained for the last part of the school year. Because they didn't want to deal with it! As a result of this I feel as if they set him up for failure and did not make sure he was getting the proper lessons and skills he needed for Kindergarten success.Parent Review2y ago
