Read what parents are saying about Deep Creek Elementary SchoolBoth my kids attend here and we had such a good experience this past year. Looking forward to more great experiences in September.0
Posted by a parent on 8/16/2023My children attended Pre-K, Kinder, 1st & 2nd grade from 2020-2023 and it was a wonderful experience! The teachers communicated well, homework was not excessive and the overall school environment was productive, safe & friendly. I could tell immediately that my children were learning so much by their vocabulary and discussions of different topics. Lots of spirit days and birthday recognition on the announcements. Another plus was the once a month meetings for military children and their recognition during the Month of the Military child. Great supporters for our military children and all children in general! Great school!
Posted by a parent on 8/16/2023The school tried. It just wasn't a good fit for our child's needs. He still talks about his wonderful teacher and what he learned. The principal, assistant principal, and office staff were amazing amd definitely missed after we left. Mr Miller at the front desk just brightens everyone's day. My main issue was with the school social worker on our IEP committee as she completely misquoted us during the IEP meeting and didn't seem to even know the differences between parenting styles we had explained to her. I also didn't like recess being the first thing taken away for consequences but it sounds like that is standard. Overall, a good experience though. I'd give it another chance if it was an option.
Posted by a parent on 8/16/2023This school has been great so far. My son has been going here for 2 years now. We haven’t had any issues and he loves going to school every day which makes me happy. He has learned a lot and giving the right amount of homework to where it has helped him a lot and doesn’t overwhelm him. He sure has grown a lot since attending this school.
Posted by a parent on 1/13/2020I have fallen in love with this school and my child's teacher. I took forward to the next school year. Believe it or not, but my child is looking forward to next school year!!!! Go Baby Hornets, Go!!!

6/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy daughter was in the Pre-K program and I can only speak to our experience with that program. I have 5 children and she is the youngest. This was by far the worst experience my family has had with a school . This school should NOT be funded for the Ealey Education Program as they are ill-equipped. The “rooms” are very small, dark and actually depressing trailers in the back of the school. There is no Dramatic Play areas for the children and very little room for them to move around. This school ignores the vast majority of research in early childhood education that shows kids gain knowledge through their experiences rather than having it spoon-fed to them by an adult. This school does not encourage exploration and discovery. They DO NOT provide rich hands-on learning opportunities to stimulate deeper understanding by asking probing questions. Play is not encouraged or tolerated; 4-year-olds must sit still and listen (they are expected to sit quietly for more than 15 to 20 minutes at a time) when their brains are wired to explore, their bodies are eager to move, and their verbal skills are ready to be unleashed. If a Pre-K student is being disciplined, teachers take away recess or outside time as a punishment. This is extremely harmful to a child in this age group and only leads to worst behavior. Activities never change or don’t hold children’s interest. When my child was at this school, I was called daily to report behavior problems. We tried to work with the teacher and staff but there was no empathy or consideration for her and the situation was actually causing her to digress and start to have tantrums (she never had them prior to attending the school). We decided to remove her from the school and place her in a private school. The 1st day at her new school, I was so worried I would receive a call. Nothing! I never received calls with bad behavior reports from the new school. During the parent teacher meeting, there were NO reported behavior concerns and she actually was moved to the highest reading and math level groups. The experience was a complete 180! Tragically, the very things that many uninformed parents desire in a preschool are the very things that are most harmful to their kids. I feel so sad for parents who have to send their child to this school and don't have the ability to look for an alternative.Parent Review3y ago - G.A. Treakle Elementary School

5/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy 6 yr old started this year and she's as happy as she can be. I did a video with her teacher today so I could meet her and go over my daughter's progress. They always include parents and continuously try to encourage parents to join the PTA. My daughter was being picked on be another little girl and the teacher took care of the problem and there has been no more issues not to mention the protective crossing guard.....Parent Review5mo ago - Deep Creek Central Elementary School

8/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThis school is a joke. We moved to Virginia Beach from another state and everyone told us we needed to be in the Grassfield school district, specifically the elementary school. We don't like anything about this school or the district. The only reason I gave it 1 star is being she has had a decent teacher the last 2 years. . When we first moved to Chesapeake and my daughter started going here she was very upset and going through some things mentally. She asked the guidance counselors for help multiple times, we asked them for help multiple times. We were always promised she would be seen and taken care of and she was ghosted every single time. When she finally did see the guidance counselor she was told she needed to stop crying because she was going to send a bad message to all the other kids. We had an issue with one of the teachers at first and requested a transfer and again we were ghosted by the vice principle multiple times and was only able to talk to him when we called over and over again . The principal has zero presence in this school. We have been here 2 years and I have never seen the principal, EVER. . They run their lunch room like a prison. I have been there multiple times to have lunch with my daughter and every time I have been there they have someone in the lunch room yelling at kids for talking and handing out "silent lunches" They rarely have any family functions at the school . Her previous schools would have family nights, seasonal parties and carnivals. This school offers absolutely nothing. When they do have the occasional holiday party you're only allowed one family member. I never recommend this school to anyone and if you have other options, I would consider those. Plus the tardy policy is absolutely ridiculous . They make you feel like you're breaking the law for wanting to take your children out early or keeping them home for sick or mental health days.Parent Review1mo ago - Joyous Sound Education & Enrichment Center

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThis school is excellent! The staff is very welcoming and family oriented. Parents are always welcome to drop in and volunteer at any time. The student teacher ratio is low, allowing teachers the opportunity to give one on one assistance when needed. Students are constantly challenged and encouraged to reach their fullest potential. Thanks to the wonderful K4 teacher, my child was reading full books at the age of 4. The director is very hands on and truly loves children. Most importantly, the school provides a loving christian environment and teaches the children daily about God. If I could give more stars - I would! Give them a call and see for yourself :)Parent Review13y ago
