Read what parents are saying about Burnley-Moran Elementary SchoolThere are so many things that this school does that is not measured in evaluation. They meaning the teachers and staff see the bright side of all students. They work so hard at keeping children engaged and emotionally healthy. What a gift the teachers are for the children in this school. There is no doubt that teachers should rule the world
Posted by a community member on 2/23/2023We have a daughter is kindergarten and have had the ideal first year. Her teachers are wonderful and she has really flourished and we feel a great sense of community at the school!
Posted by a community member on 4/24/2017We moved here for two years for a fellowship at UVA. Everyone told us to try to get into Venable or Greenbrier, but no houses were available in those areas that were suitable. We ended up at BME, and I am so glad we did. Our first grade son had a great year. He is a handful, but his teacher had lots of creative ideas to keep him focused and productive. Every conference we had, she mentioned how great something he did was - she really noticed student strengths even within weaknesses. The teachers found harder math and reading for him to do, since he was ahead of grade level, and he thrived as a result. My son adored his specials teachers. All students are given math programs (to access with Internet) to use at home to hone math skills. Communication was timely and professional. I really couldn't ask for a better school for my kids. My youngest starts kindergarten in the fall and she cannot wait!
Posted by a parent on 6/10/2013Against recommendations, we enrolled our child in Kindergarten. Although our child did well, I am sure this was only due the great education at a private pre-school. (There are many, many in the area.) We should have waited and enrolled our child in first grade. I had the opportunity to volunteer at the school and was shocked with the poor conduct of many of the children and foul language they used against each other. Apparently, this was their first experience in a structured environment. Although our child was way ahead of the curve, too much time was required getting all students to master basics skills like hand washing, waiting in line or sitting in a chair quietly. Some children sought attention by hitting, pushing, throwing objects or chewing on (sometimes disgusting) objects. Clearly, no matter how badly a child behaved, they were not sent outside of the classroom. Apparently, the principal did not want to deal with these disruptive children outside of her office. This school desperately needs a designated timeout room with a full-time attendant!
Posted by a parent on 12/23/2011We have been at this school for three years, and plan to continue sending both of our kids here. The level of education and individual attention that my child receives is amazing. The teaching staff is phenomenal and the administration is really talented and runs the school with skill, and the rest of the staff is excellent as well.

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageISC provides the perfect balance of a school that's fun, Montessori style approach, with enough academics to prepare students for first grade. Additionally, they learn the invaluable skill of a second language. The teachers are beyond qualified, even for the after school program. And the administration is hilarious, communicative, and focused on fostering community. 5 stars!Parent Review6y ago - Charlottesville Waldorf School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy children have been in the early childhood program and are now in the grade school. The teachers at Charlottesville Waldorf School are creative, inspiring, and take the time to really see and work with each student. My children are happy to be at school, they are excited about their classes and interested in the subjects. They have completed amazing projects - knit socks, a small quilt, tamales - and stretched their abilities in drama, singing, orchestra, math, reading, physics, sports. They are learning to be interested in the world and learning to be active participants in the world.Parent Review9mo ago - Frost Montessori School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI have children of different ages in this school and while the teaching styles vary widely from one teacher to another, overall I believe they’re receiving very high quality education and performing better than they were in their prior schools. The school also offers a lot of side activities and events (many of them with a religious theme) which keep the day-to-day of the school more interesting in my pov. I think the management team works very hard to make sure everyone is learning, happy and safe. I occasionally dislike some of the rigidity and lack of outdoor learning opportunities, but aside from this, we have been impressed. Also the community around the school is very supportive and often meets outside of school as well.Parent Review11mo ago - Mountaintop Montessori

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMountaintop began as a choice that I knew would be beneficial for the growth of my children. It continues to be that and so much more. My husband and I have acquired numerous resources that have helped us be better parents. My children love school and I know they are gaining skills that they wouldn't receive anywhere else. Mountaintop is an investment, and I know it will serve my children throughout their lifetimes.Teacher Review5y ago - Charlottesville Day School
