Read what parents are saying about Old Mill SchoolOur boys are in Spanish Dual Immersion at Old Mill and have been since Kindergarten. We have been thrilled with the leadership, teachers, and staff at Old Mill in each grade level. It is a fantastic learning environment! We love old Mill!!
Posted by a parent on 4/5/2023I have had kids in every grade at this school and love it! Mr. Hardy is the best principal I have seen and quickly resolves issues. He knows every student: he eats lunch with them, goes to recess with them, holds the doors open and tells them goodbye when school is out. He is always approachable, available and helpful to students and parents. So are the teachers. The teachers are incredible, pleasant and fun in 1st-3rd grades. Most of the 4th grade teachers are good. Unfortunately, kindergarten is awful. All of those teachers are old and cranky. Most students are behind when they start 1st grade, but the 1st grade teachers get them caught up. Overall, this is a happy, clean, cute school. Kids leave with an excellent education.
Posted by a parent on 4/2/2015Old Mill Elementary is one of the finest schools I have known. The teachers not only teach the core curriculum, but they make learning come alive for the students. They are kind and high energy teachers whom the students love spending their time with.
Posted by a teacher on 5/21/2013Great principal, dedicated teachers, and a beautiful building. What more could you ask for? Compared to other schools in the area, Old Mill has a very professional feel. Teachers take their job seriously but are warm and inviting at the same time. I continue to be impressed.
Posted by a parent on 1/26/2013My son attended K-4 at OME. It was a terrible experience for my son, one that I am glad is finally over now that he is in 5th grade. My greatest criticism is for Principal H, whose apathetic attitude toward parental concerns for their children and robot-like interaction with the students should disqualify him to be the Principal of an Elementary school (I have talked to several parents who feel the same way). It seems that he just wants to collect his $91,524/yr paycheck + $36,225/yr in benefits (according to utahsright.com) and not have to deal with anyone's problems/concerns. Isn't that what we taxpayers pay him for? The bullying problem is out of control, largely in part because Mr. H and the teachers don't do anything about it. My son was hit in the face by a bully and Mr. H made my son feel as if it was his fault by telling him to just stay out of the bully's way next time. I've had to send my son to a child psychologist to try and undue the damage caused by his years at OME. Go back to being a Woodshop teacher, Mr. H. You are clearly not cut out to be an Elementary School Principal! Lastly, the Kindergarten & 4th grade teachers are terrible; the rest are pretty good.

5/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating Average(2021) currently not sure what my opinion is on this particular school as of right now but i can tell youthat my son has been there for 4 years if you’re including preschool and what I can say is the amount of reading that they must not be doing at the school have to be done at home is required 20 minutes of sight words 7 days a week (it’s exactly what it shows on the calendar they send you)plus Reading a chapter a day of a bookPlus other mathematical homeworkplus phonicsand you kind of wonder to yourself what they are really teaching them in school if this much work needs to be done at home a lot of children are struggling at the school because a lot of the parents do not have time to do what they should be doing in school for 7 to 8 hoursPlus all the hundreds of emails they send daily it’s hard to keep up on the newsletters and everything else your child misses crazy hair day and pajama day and a lot of other daysThe teachers do not make sure at least the second grade teachers do not make sure the children take home their necessary paperwork to their parents on Fridays or whatever date is of the week I have missed 2 picture days because of it.Second graders are not responsible enough two no that is Friday or whatever day of the week it is and bring it back every single Friday they need to be reminded and the teachers need to be making sure that they have that important documents and information inside their backpacks at the end of the day before the bell ringsmy son would cry every single morning to go to school including the second day of school that started for him for second grade the first day after he was already upset he said both of his teachers I will not say names but they are the only second grade teachers and Heber Valley Elementary and they both scream and yell at the kid I have called and complained about this issue and it’s not being resolved I know that they had to change their principal and get all new teachers and staff I’m not quite sure why they did that but I’m sure it has to do with the academic level and everything else that’s going on in that school.but the amount of homework that needs to be done is something that should be done at school when I was a PTA at Heber Valley Elementary for first grade and for kindergarten we will talk about first grade all seven hours of the day they would be on tablets in front of screens they would not do much activity at all they were constantly be on their tablets.Parent Review2y ago - J.R.
