Thornton Elementary School

My son is currently in 1st grade. While I enjoy his teacher, I just dont feel hes making good progress and getting the extra help he needs. I feel like the teachers need more support and resources and it's something they may not be getting. I dont know everything as I'm not a teacher, but something is up.

My daughter has been at this school for the past 5 years. She has grown both academically and socially. The teachers really care about the kids. All of my daughter’s teachers have gone above and beyond. The ladies in the front office are welcoming and the principal really listens and cares. I definitely recommend this school!

We have two sons that have been at this school since kindergarten. Our older sons went to a different school. Overall we were pleased with both but this school has exceeded our expectations. We worried initially based on the schools previous scores but after meeting with the teachers and doing tours we were confident this was the right decision. Since then the school has continued to do better and our sons have both excelled. We always make sure to tell anyone that has questions about this school about our experience.

Our son really enjoys this school, and the teachers have made us feel that he is cared for and safe. He has been thriving in this type of educational setting, and it has positively impacted his sense of independence.

Academics are subpar. Punishments are cruel and not disclosed to parents. Retaliation towards whistleblowers. Financials are not fully transparent. Art room floods multiple times a year and staff isn’t aware for days to get someone to dry it out. Special education is not offered. Students are not challenged or given advanced work or opportunities. Class sizes are at max capacity. Competition is discouraged. Teachers have to teach art and science as no staff for those positions. Technological opportunities for students are out dated. Library is not accessible and fully functional to students. Teachers are not given supplies and equipment to perform their jobs. Disciplinary actions are biased and focused on nepotism.

Some teachers are very good, but many are football coaches who are not good teachers at all.The textbooks claim to be from a Christian perspective, but it is really a politically conservative perspective that uses some Christian language to disguise the true agenda. Many of the textbooks are from BJU Press, which stands for Bob Jones University Press.If you're child is struggling, the response of the teachers is mixed. Wanted to come here because the public school was letting our child down. The smaller size of the school was beneficial, but not sure the education is really any better.

The worst experience and my son hated it. I wish I never put him in this terrible school.
