6/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageAs a 7 year attendee of SST Discovery and in the 8th grade, I can say that this school is not that good. Here's why:Learning: I never feel excited about what I'm learning, and the teachers don't seem to be either. The teachers just give you notes to write down and then give you homework, and that's if it's a good class. Some classes (like 8th grade and last year's 7th grade Spanish) the teacher just gives you easy assignments and doesn't actually teach you Spanish. We are also doing the same assignments from last year in this year. We are not even learning new things in Spanish class.Special Education: I can not provide feedback on this as I am not in Special Education but I do know some Special Education people and I can say that their experience is not that good.Teaching: This one really is a 50/50.On one hand, the teachers (they're mostly in the elementary levels though) can be really nice and really motivating and collaborate and help you to do your work, but on the other hand (mostly in the middle schools) they enforce a ton of work, or they don't enforce any work at all, and they teach badly by just giving you notes to copy down and expect you to do well on the tests. (The average for 8th grade B class on the Social Studies District Assessment was a 42 and only 5% pass rate, wow.)Safety: The school doesn't really punish unless it's a big incident that happens to disrupt the already lackluster teaching and learning in the class.Social-emotional support: I have never seen the school try to intervene with the student's health AT ALL. Maybe if the student is crying the teacher will ask if they're okay but that's it. One time in the 6th grade I had a concussion on the playground and all I got was an ICE PACK.Family Engagement: The school does alright with this, some of the teachers are really nice and perform acts of kindness for your family. so I'll give them some credit on that. Conclusion: in conclusion, SST Discovery is a school that I would NOT recommend for your child to go to. There are much better options for schools for your child to go to, and this school is not the one.Student Review6mo ago - L B Johnson Elementary School

4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI went t register my children to this school from moving to a new house and the attendance lady verbally attacked me I felt like I was being interrogated she was asking me all sorts of questions and threatened me wth the truant officer and making me feel like I was in trouble because I withdrew my kids from their previous school and didn't sign the form when they switch to homeschool which legally I do not have to do such im sure the teachers are great but because of he rude office employees I will never go back ill stick to the private school my children are in nowParent Review8y ago - International Christian School

3/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMartin Elementary is a great school with a strong, supportive, administration and professional staff who are pillars of excellence and leadership. All the teachers I have met with or spoken to are consistently professional and helpful. The offered me supplemental educational resources to assist my student with his/her challenge. The staff also offers a differentiated approach to teaching, so a child who is ahead academically is not left unchallenged while others are still trying to catch up. Teachers identify challenges early-on through communication with math/reading/dyslexia specialists to help students achieve success. Even the counselor was a great help. The front office staff has always been courteous, friendly and are always willing to assist parents/visitors/students. I feel my child is in a safe environment because the communication amongst the staff is top notch. All staff that I have encountered from administration, office, nurse, counselor, cafeteria or teachers are what make Martin Elementary a great and organized school. They are the reason Northside is a premier school district, because they put children first! I am proud to be a Martin mom!Parent Review10y ago
