Read what parents are saying about Chisholm Trail Middle SchoolCtms is a good enough middle school with some caveats that need to be addressed by the school:- for the most part, teachers are great Chisholm. There are exceptions, mostly with coaches forced to teach (some, not all)- vice principal support is strong and grade level focused- the principal is VERY focused on athletics, especially football. His weekly emails/video updates focus 90% on athletics. Academic achievement rarely gets called out and if it does, it is not nearly with the same enthusiasm as with athletics. Even within athletics, football takes the main stage. Other sports take a back seat. School social media is also very football focused - it is well known within the school that certain teachers will always give football players passing grades in order to participate in football games. This is very disheartening to students who put in the effort. This privilege is used as a brag by football players. - certain history teachers don’t even try to teach kids and have a “reputation” among students.- on the plus side, the school put a no phone usage policy in place this year which was a fantastic moveIf the school could give as much focus/praise to academics as they do to athletics, the student culture would be much better. The hierarchy created by the principal is disappointing. Again, not a bad school, just an easy opportunity to change the culture away from football focus only.

Posted by a parent on 5/18/2023Biology teacher is dismisive to my son: keeps on putting him off, rather than guide. Educational principle has no integrity. She did not get back to me as she said she would. The school has added 20 days absent for my child, which is a mistake and they will not address it. I believe it is one rule for certain kids and others get a pass.
Posted by a parent on 4/9/2023This is our first year here and academically it has been great - some of the kids are bullies, but the administration doesn’t put up with them.

8/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy daughter is Mme Amy Ellzey in Prek, and she never been so happy to go to school. She seems to come back home always with a smile, tired and with her head full of learnings. Its easy to get in touch and get response from the teacher or the staff, and they always welcome you with a smile and with a positive attitude. We normally depend of Great Oak elementary, but my daughter is already asking if she could stay in Fern Bluff for next year !! So for sure it is positive on her sideParent Review5mo ago - Claude Berkman Elementary School

7/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageBrushy Creek Elementary does indeed focus on feelings and how to manage them. These, of course, help children build their social and emotional skills. Good soft skills beget lasting friends. Per Harvard researchers, Raj Chetty et al., having friends is most likely the best ingredient for economic mobility! That's awesome! His research suggests having a great Kindergarten teacher can increase a child’s lifetime earnings by $300,000. Great teachers are in turn defined by how well they manage a classroom including with disruptive children, how well they inspire kids, not how well they explain an academic concept. But don’t take my word for it, Google him or check out his guest appearance discussing these matters on NPR’s Hidden Brain (podcast) episode: “Zipcode Destiny”. My child has a 504 plan. He works with the 504 specialist every week. When given a recent assignment from the main teacher to write a letter to any staff or teacher at BCE, my child chose to write a thank you letter to the 504 specialist for helping them read. Moreover, I and my spouse can tell a huge difference in our child’s reading ability since working with their 504 specialist. Huge difference. My child's fifth grade teacher has emailed my spouse and I several times when our child is struggling to stay focused in school and finish assignments. The teacher offers suggestions. She clearly engages with parents to help her students. I routinely see BCE staff including the principal and vice principal greeting kids by name when they arrive at school. Wow. They are out there building relationships and safe environments for children. Who doesn’t want that?!Thank you, BCE staff and teachers, for guiding our kids to develop the requisite skills for life in addition to academics.Parent Review1mo ago - Bluebonnet Elementary School

3/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThis school does not at all take bullying seriously. My sister has come home nearly every day upset about this kid continuously pushing her and making rude/offensive comments. After about 6 months when someone did something about this, the kid only had to write an apology letter. No real punishment for 6 months of bullying. Insane.Parent Review2y ago - Old Town Elementary School

4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy grandson's first grade class has 22 students which is also a Spanish immersion class. I feel that is too many students for the teacher since she is teaching two languages. English and Spanish. My two sisters were teachers and always had over 22 students. They did their best but always felt some students were not getting the benefit and attention they needed for learning.Parent Review1y ago - Great Oaks Elementary School

9/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI am writing a review after reading all of the previous reviews written I have a few things to say. I have two kids (twins) that are now in 5th grade and have been there since Kindergarten. I have only had positive experiences with Great Oaks Elementary. I have not met a teacher that doesn't LOVE GOE and many have been there for many many years. This fact is an excellent sign that this school is a welcoming and positive place to work and attend. We experienced the Covid years at GOE when my kids were at end of 1st grade through maybe the beginning of 3rd grade. I was very impressed with how the principal and staff dealt with this very difficult time for the education system. My kids luckily were able to bounce back and really didn't experience any gaps during this time. I have a kiddo with a 504 and he was able to stay on level the entire time. i have only ever felt that GOE provides a well organized, super communicative, warm and welcoming environment. If that doesn't provide an excellent environment for learning then I don't know what does.Parent Review5mo ago
