Read what parents are saying about Overton Elementary SchoolOverton Elementary went from a D grade level school to a B grade level school. Overton Elementary is doing something right.
Posted by a parent on 9/22/2022The curriculum is based solely on passing state mandated tests, the kids were poorly disciplined, and the anti-bullying policies were not enforced what-so-ever.
Posted by a community member on 4/1/2017My child went to Overton Elementary for kindergarten and first grade. Some of the teachers are absolutely amazing. My child had Mrs. Clifton for first grade and she was just an absolute joy. She was patient with my child and was really great about communicating with me regarding any problems that my child was having. I know that this school has many dedicated teachers and staff that absolutely have the children's best interests at heart. The thing that does disappoint me about this school is what appears to be a lack of parental involvement. That's not the school's fault, but it would be nice to see more parents involved with the teachers and the school itself. I've seen too many of my child's peers' parents treating their teachers as glorified babysitters. Hopefully things will continue to improve at Overton!

9/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageSpecial Education teacher and Dyslexia teacher were phenomenal. Sad that the regular teachers are too prideful to go by your IEP plan and they go against the special Ed Teacher. There’s too much drama and the clicks are ridiculous between the teachers. They are more focused on drama and it’s leaving our children behind. Just because they have been teaching for a long time does not mean they are good teachers. We will not be returning. Mrs. Watson & Mrs Bocko were terrific.Parent Review2y ago - Rush Elementary School

I must say that dealing with the principal was very unpleasant. I remember one time I went to a school party where the parents needed badges, and found my son was screaming and screaming in the principal’s office. He had been sent there because he didn’t finish an assignment, and he had gone hysterical because he wouldn’t be allowed to go to the school party. Once I got my visitor sticker, which took a long time waiting in line, I went in there and helped him finish the work. It took two minutes. I can’t believe the principal just left him there screaming all alone. There were many other minor incidents that struck me as uncaring on the part of the teachers and the staff. I am not from Texas so perhaps these sorts of things seems strange only to me. One teacher kept repeating to my son that he “must obey.” I was confused — was that teaching or obedience training? Another teacher did not send him to the nurse after he got kicked in the hand during recess. He cried all day and complained of pain. When I picked him up, the hand was all swollen, and we went directly to the doctor’s office. Luckily, nothing was broken, but his hand got bandaged for a couple of days. Two teachers at this school made grammatical and spelling errors in emails or homework assignments/feedback. The breaking point for me was the spring semester of COVID, when I saw that many of the assignments during “virtual” school were of surprisingly low quality. Math homework contained errors. Word problems were ambiguously worded and could be interpreted in more than one way. After that experience, I signed up my son for an online private school in a West Coast state. He is much happier now. This school seems to have much better lessons, assignments, and overall curriculum. I am glad I will never again have to talk to the principal of Roscoe Wilson.Parent Review3y ago - St Luke's Preschool

For the most part, we love CTK, and the teaching has been fine. There are a few subjects that have struggled through the years, but the kids seem to be getting what they need. The school is small and sometimes resources are limited as far as special education is concerned, so for kids that have learning difficulties it can be challenging at times, but CTK tries to do their best with it. CTK is very family oriented and encourages family involvement, which is needed in the small community that it is. I've seen some of the reviews with complaints about the school, and while the school does have a couple of snags, you're never going to be 100% happy anywhere you go, but again, for the most part CTK is a great school to be a part of. So, we are pleased with sending our children to CTK and wouldn't have it any other way.Parent Review8mo ago
