Read what parents are saying about Martin High SchoolThe Student Discipline in this School is a problem where Stuent and Parent Self Discipline, Admininstrators not following through on Rules and District Policy is the cause of this School's less than Mediodre Status, Sad to see, as a former Student and district Instructor.
Posted by a teacher on 12/3/2023This school is not what it once was. Sure it was never great but it is in a total slump. The teachers cannot be blamed completely when you have students (and parents alike) that don't care. It sad really to see this historic school turn into a total quagmire.
Posted by a parent on 6/27/2011Martin High School is a great institution and possibly the best school in Laredo, Texas. Sure the TAKS scores are low, but consider this: a majority of freshmen have poor English and reading skills. The faculty and administration have work twice as hard as other schools to get these kids to understand the material. The dedication to the student's success by the faculty is so immense. By the time these kids, whom have had trouble with English graduate, they are grateful, and enthused about college. No the TAKS scores don't measure that but their teachers really are there for them. This school never gets the credit it deserves and never gets a pat on the back for what it does right. Now as for the pre-AP, GT kids: They aren't ignored for the sake of the overwhelming majority struggling with English and social-economic problems, they are challenged. There are so many extracurricular activities; it will keep overachievers very preoccupied. I'm an alumnus, very involved honor student, Manga Cum Laude college graduate, did my teaching internship there. There is no other school like it. I pray for the day when I will teach there, like my mother has. Once A Tiger, Always a Tiger
Posted by a community member on 1/5/2011As a former staff member, I can attest that this school is home to troubled kids. One need not look farther than the school's standardized testing record to see many students don't go on to complete a higher education. With that said, great students will succeed no matter the environment. Martin has produced countless great students. This school has excellent teachers and leadership. Unfortunately, much of it falls flat on the ears of the overwhelmingly majority: apathetic students and their equally apathetic (AND uneducated) parents. School pride? Check. Educational pride? TBA

7/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating Average'My school is the best school ever. My teacher Ms Enriquez is awesome! She cares for all of us. She wants us to pass. This are the words of my son, I am glad he is happy. Every morning is a new challenge for him. But this year is his year. He likes his principal Mr. Castillo. Very respectable man. All faculty work as a team. They teach and have fun. The school strives for security and wellness of our children. Everything is well ordered. The PTA meeting are excellent and well informed. I have my boy that already passed to 6th and no longer is in this school. But since beginning his teacher have acknowledge him and got him to participate in various events. They even participated in a Television Program, Chess Clubs and Science project. My son never missed a day, enjoyed Bruni School to the max. I am proud of Bruni School. And appreciate all it gave to my sons to excel in life.Parent Review10y ago - Don Jose Gallego

8/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy son is in this school and the priciple/teachers are rude mean and dont put the effort to help my son. They give my son write ups and dont like him since the day i found out his teacher had thrown his box of crayons to the trash for coloring as a punishment since that day till now they put him in a desk facing the wall alone didnt let him play with the other classmates the other things that has happen is worse not even changing teachers work, the reason they changed my son from teachers was because i went to his school and they were having a private meeting without me knowing anything i was suppost to been there and called since my son is under age, i had to tell the principle the teacher and councilor that i was fed up with all this and i was going to speak with the lisd district my son loved school waking up in the mornings but not anymore now he cries and dont want to go at all. His been in school since he was 3 yrs old when my husband was in the Marines. Now i dont know what to do since his new teacher is being the same as the other, my son really needs titorials but his teacher said he dont need it since his not going to pass to 2nd.Parent Review13y ago - Macdonell Elementary School

7/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThis is a really great school with amazing teachers and leadership. We transferred here from Pirtle Elementary due to changes in the district boundaries. Parents are welcome at this school and are truely treated as partners. There has been an obvious effort by the teachers to get to know the kids and connect with them. The principle seems genuine in her actions, fair and honest. We are so grateful for this positive change.Parent Review10y ago - Dovalina Elementary School

7/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI once attended this school and now my child is in this school, but I am not happy with the lack of professionalism the principal and vice-principal, along with others have towards parents who want to be involved in their child's education. This school needs better teachers who are qualified to teach the students. The school needs to involve the parents more, in order to help in the child's education. There is also a lack of communication and many parents are clueless of the rights they have as parents.Parent Review10y ago
