I am now scared to send my kid to school after him coming home with a knot on his head the size of his nose. After having a meeting with the principal they still couldn’t tell me what happen.Parent Review2y ago - Hanes Elementary School

3/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI would recommend any parent that lives in the Irving ISD to seek education elsewhere. There is no diversity in the staff which has been proven as a barrier for African-American students. If 18% of the student body makeup is African American then the staff should reflect that as well. Mr. Pollard will talk to you as if you as a parent knows nothing. His decision making skills are subpar. My daughter started her kindergarten year off with one teacher that went on maternity leave after the first two weeks. She then spent the next 5 months of the year with an amazing long term substitute, who just so happens not to be certified. I say amazing because during her time there she was able to help my daughter more than double most of her test scores, she actively tried to build a relationship with the students AND parents, and because those kids loved her especially my own. After the original teacher decided she wouldnt return then they hired someone else that is certified to take over the last 3 months of the school year. Everyday since I have gotten a phone call because of my daughter's behavior and they all act like its some big shock. My daughter was the closest with the sub so yes it has thrown her off. Since this new teacher has been placed they are no longer going on site words. She was told that the kids had no structure before she got there and that they didnt know their basic shape names, allllll of which is not true. I have old school work my child has brought home that shows they in fact were learning these things. And now my child cant even tell me what she did at school today because of the lack of structure whereas before she could tell me the approximate time (because the sub was teaching that too) they did most of the activities for the day. I will not be surprised if her next test scores arent as great. I try to go over whatever she's been learning at school but NOW I have nothing to go off of. I've tried being the active parent but after being treated like I myself am not college educated and being lied to I'll most definitely be moving her to a better school and ISD. Im also disappointed in the only black face you will see aside from 3 or 4 teachers, the assistant principal. All skin folk aint kin folk.Parent Review2y ago - Lively Elementary School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThis school has ruined my mental health. Parents are willing to put themselves into debt to take their children there. It may be because of how this school describes themselves. they tell parents "it will save your childs life". Little do they know that it does the opposite. Our mindset in just about everything has been butchered because of this place. We are expected to be so hard on ourselves. They get mad at us for a 98% on an exam. They tell us to "be harder on ourselves". They say "growth mindset is promoted here. Such lies. If only people knew what goes on in our lives because of this school. More like "closed minset".Student Review1y ago
